web site

What is the average price for a good web site to be made?

Tom
This all depends on what kind of site you want...how many pages, links, ordering pages etc.

I used a service in AZ that had mine up and running in one day...The cost was about $200 up and running then 9 bucks a month....you can send me a PM and I will send you her info so that you can ask about what you want done....

It just depends on how many pages that you want it to be. I charge usually around $200 or $300 for an easy website built with a preixisting template, but if I have to build one from scratch and it is going to be more than ten pages, then it could cost upwards of $500 bucks. I've got quite a few templates on hand that I could use for you if you are interested in getting something built. It just depends on how complicated you want to get with it. Something that I can say is that having a website with pictures of your work is incredibly powerful when you are trying to run a business. You can put the URL on your business cards and have something to actually show what kind of work that you do. You can also have an email address that reflects your business name and that is so much more professional than just a free hotmail or gmail address. I honestly wouldn't have much business at all if it weren't for my website.

Just in case you are looking for templates. Open Source Web Design - Download free web design templates. is a great place to get free ones. You don't even need a lot of html knowledge to edit a website these days. You just need a good program like Dreamweaver (what I use) or even FrontPage. There are also a number of great html editors that you can get off the web for free. The starting point is to build or find a tempate that you can work with and then start adding content.

After that is sorted out then you can start looking for a web host. I go through 1&1 Internet Inc. - Web Hosting Services and Domain Name Registration for my sites. I've got probably a dozen or more sites hosted on my account and it is only costing me like $60 bucks a year for all my domains and bandwidth. They are very very reasonably priced. The other great thing about going with 1and1 is that they include all sorts of neat software in the start up package that they give you. They even have some online tools included that allow you to build and edit your website without having to install anything. I would recommend them for any beginner who is needing some help in creating and managing their website. Before I charge anybody for a website I always try to encourage them to sign up with 1and1 and build it themselves first. If they simply don't have the time or desire to learn how to build one, then I encourage them to choose 1and1 for their host anyway and then I build it and upload it for them. You can save yourself a couple hundred bucks if you take the time to learn and do it yourself though. :)

I do web graphic work as a side business and this is my favorite answer to your question...

"so you want a want a new car"

a new car you ask...??

"yeah, a new car --

cause the cost of your site will be directly proportianate to what you want to do with it -- what kinda options do you want, what do you want it to do, do you want it to be fast, do you want it to be a sports car, a luxury car, a compact, or an suv; do you want 4 wheel drive, front wheel drive, blue, red, silver, a V8, automatic, stick, etc...

Your sites cost will be directly proportianate to what you want to spend. For a simple no frills site look at spending maybe $50-150 per page, and it goes up from there.
