Wearing eyeglasses and detailing = no no

Just came upon a realization after over an hour of polishing/cutting the same panel on my car, realizing that there was allways this haze. Not really a haze, but my garage ceiling bulbs would reflect nicely on the roof, but there would be an addition 3 or 4 rays/beams coming off the lights into the air. Almost as if there was still this haze left on the panel.



I then looked at the light directly in the ceiling, and noticed the same light-beam reflections! :think: It took me a while to realize that by moving my head a bit, those reflections would change, sometimes disapear where I could see the light bulb perfectly with no halo around it. Aha! :idea My eyeglasses! Took them off, and noticed all the scratches and what-not.



Well, after looking at the panel again, I found a good spot through my eyeglasses where no halo/hazey beams were seen reflecting off the light bulbs. Success! :woohoo: Panel is like glass (royal saphire pearl).



Now I should find a way to polish my eyeglasses
 
hmmmm most automotive care products should be applied to a cool panel in the shade. Why would you need sunglasses in the garage? But hey, at least you didn't polish thru the clearcoat to try and remove the haze :dance
 
My only complaint is that my Transitions don't lighten up fast enough when going in the garage from outside to begin inspection. I literally have held to hold my nose about an inch from the paint to inspect it while waiting it. :chuckle: . I have a real beater pair of non Transitions glasses I reserve for dirty jobs like washing undercarriages. I'm about to order two more pairs and that beater pair will permanently be located in one of my plastic rolling cabinets in the garage.
 
Might be tough to do without distorting the opitical abilities of the lenses. AFAIK, those commercially available repair kits,at best, only somewhat fill scratches.
 
I start with the Sonus Green Clay, then follow with a 4 inch green pad on my PC with the Sonus SFX3 when polishing glasses. I follow with AIO by machine, then 2 layers of SG by hand (after 2 layers I find diminishing returns.) Wait atleast 12 hours before applications. You don't want the glasses bouncing around, so secure them to your manequin (www.spectaclesandmanequins.com). Use an acrylic sprits to restore gloss and shine. My spectacles won best in show this July at a local car show.



Ok I made all that up. But honestly I think if you go to a glasses store, they can polish them for you for an affordable rate. Maybe call ahead for an appointment?
