This is a common vehicle here in Mesa, AZ. I call it an Urban Assault Vehicle. Swarms of soccer mom?s navigate the urban jungle toting kids from school to home, recitals, games, and slumber parties. This particular beauty is the last of a breed; a 2006, just before the body style switch. This one is 4X4 and unlike most urban SUV?s it actually sees snow and mud, (mostly shopping malls though). This one belongs to my nephew who has five kids. I chuckled when I lifted the seats to find fries, cocoa puffs, glitter, paper clips, a rock, a melted crayon, and other goodies. I found out when I was done, that one of the stains I cleaned up was vomit. My niece said, ?hey it happens I have five kids?. I really enjoyed this one though because my nephew works hard but lacks time to attend to the car with his kids? engagements and house chores. I have free time and enjoy cleaning cars, so here we go??

I picked up the car the night before and parked at a friend?s house who had agreed to help me tackle the job. This also allowed me to get an early start and work as long as I needed without waking up the kids or disturbing their daily routine.
I started with the carpet to allow time to dry while I tackled the outside. I treated and scrubbed stains with 303 Spot Remover, and followed with a general cleaning of the carpet with diluted Woolite and a MF towel.
After vacuuming and the carpets and floor mats I moved on to the paint. My nephew felt bad giving me a dirty car so he took it to a car wash before giving it to me. I told him that was like brining sand to a beach. At any rate it did allow me to move on to polish quickly. Since the car was basically clean I simply washed with ONR. I washed and dried the first panel and started to polish. As I polished my helper continued to wash and dry the car with ONR. To save time my helper washed the wheels and moved back into the interior as I finished polishing.
Interior panels and most of the seating surfaces were cleaned with diluted Woolite. Seating surfaces were then protected with 303.
As I worked on the paint, I found a few defects, quickly removed with Ultimate Compound.
After
After polishing we moved the car outside for a wash with Dawn. This removed my polish residue and prepared the paint for Blackfire WD. For the Blackfire I have a dedicated red pad I use on my PC. I had time to apply two coats to ensure even coverage. As it cured we finished the interior, cleaned the windows and detailed the engine bay. By this time I am feeling the effects of a long day?s work.
Here are a few pics of the results. As the sun started to set I found it difficult to capture the shimmer of the paint.
The day was such a whirlwind, I wish I had taken time to take more detailed pics.
