Wax with your wash?

I found that "tips" thread and someone recommended putting a little liquid wax in with your wash. How many people do this and what wax do you use? It doesn't seem worth using good wax, and I DO have some old Zymol liquid cleaner wax, but I figure I'll judge how insane I go wtih this with how insane others have gone.



I suppose I could go to autozone and just get some megs....hmmm.........
 
I know that RainX has a wash that has little carnauba wax beads in it. There are actually several washes that have wax in the mix. That would probably be more effective to use than adding your own wax to the wash. The wax probably would just sink to the bottom anyway. It would have to be a pretty thin wax to mix up with water.
 
I know some people like Intermezzo have tried this, but I'm skeptical. I would think the soap is too busy trying to emulsify the wax you dumped in than dealing with the dirt on the car. :nixweiss



Most car wash shampoos now have "shine" ingredients already anyway.
 
I picked up some stuff from wally world one time that had little wax beads in it. Worked really nice...but annoying when you wanted to actually work on the paint of the car

That's the RainX stuff. Blue with little gold or yellow beads in it, right? I've posted a pic of it somewhere in here before.
 
I found the picture. Actually, if you do a search on 'RainX wash' then you can see that its been discussed before. There are many washes out there with carnauba or some kind of wax in em. I think those are probably better than just pouring your own in there.

I tried it a while back after reading it on Griots site. I added some Mothers Pure Carnuba Wax to some of there carwash, of course that was before i found Autopia and ran up my credit cards online, LOL. 2 things I found when doing this was that it virtually eliminated the sudsing abililty of the wash and the second was that it was real BEAR to clean the windows afterwards. I have not used it since that first try and still have the partial bottle ofwash left.
 
ive tried that "kit" car wash & wax that kinda shows on that picture Jngrbrdman posted. the yellow bottle to the left.. as far as it goes to adding some shine... i really didnt see a difference.. i do agree w/ f150, lack of suds..... but i dont know maybe im doing something wrong hehe :nixweiss
 
The lack of suds issue and the window problems is very interesting. I hadn't anticipated those possibilities. That would be a pain in the butt if the bubbles crapped out half way through the wash. What good is a car wash if it won't sud up? I'm not much of a car shampoo connesouir, but I always figured that if the bubbles went flat too quick then it wasn't an effective car wash. Don't the bubbles help float the dirt off or something like that? Does it make a difference if the bubbles aren't present?
 
I have tried it a few times and:



1. Yes, it does kill the sudsing, but there still was some lubricity. Suds are not as important as lubricity. But still....probably a good idea to only try this when your car isn't too dirty.

2. Don't wipe your windows with it. Better to just use a window cleaner after washing your car.

3. Make sure you wash and rinse one panel at a time.....as I'm sure most of you Autopians do anyway.

4. Just use a small amount of wax (Griot's recommends too much wax), and it really does do a great job of rejuvinating an existing layer.



However, I think a QD session after washing is more effective. I tried this mainly because I had so many bottles of liquid wax laying around.



I now use Z-7 for all my cars....even carnauba'd ones.
 
One trick that works well for me is adding about a 1/2 ounce of Quikshine to the QEW mix. It is especially good on paint that hasn't been waxed in a while. Makes it easier to wash and dry because the QEW water beads up better.
 
I got bitten by the experimentation bug, and Sunday added an ounce of QEW to the 3 gallon bucket filled with Meguiar's Gold Class shampoo. The QEW significantly diminished the sudsing of the Gold Class. The lubricity of the mixture did not see to be diminished nor enhanced. The just washed and rinsed finish had tighter beads than before the wash, but I don't know if that meant anything. I also didn't end of with a rinse bucket full of suds.
