Wax Products

I am just beginning to detail my vehicle and I want to know what type of wax or brand of wax is preferred most and if anyone has any wax applying suggestions. I have seen many websites saying to use Carnuba wax and then others promoting synthetic polymer waxes. I'm not sure which one works the best given the fact I have never used any wax. I have a white vehicle so luckily not too much to see if I miss a spot my first one or two applications. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

....there are a lot of good products to choose from and most folks have their personal favorites. The trick is to find the one(s) that will work well for you in your situation. If you could give folks an idea of what characteristics you are looking for in a wax/sealant, they may be able to help you narrow down some choices.

I think mainly I'm looking for a nice shiny coat. A really wow or "pop" factor to it. I'd rather have it look either shiny or "wet" and not too matte or laid back.

Well, if you are going for the WET look, you are talking about using multiple layers of LSP. My favorite combination is using 2-3 coats of Opti-Seal which is a WOWA pure sealant and then put a good wax on top of it. If you want the most durable combo then I would use Collinite 845 or 476s. 845 is a liquid and 476s is a paste. Both are VERY durable, it is not uncommon for them to last 5-6 months. The other wax I like is Poorboys Nattys paste wax (red). Looks great and is very wet, lasts a decent time but not as long as Collinite by a long shot and it smells like strawberries :).

Prep is the answer. Clay first. Then polish PO85RD is great. Then a sealant in your case Blackfire Wet Diamond. And you'll have a awesome look.

Collinite is great wax. 1000P will outlast anything and be slicker - prep makes the difference, not the wax - pick the slick durable waxes

Surface prep is key. There are very few carnaubas that look great on white, some that come to mind are S100 and Collinite 845IW. To really wake up white, go for a bold and bright sealant like DG111, Z2 or FK1000P.

Yakky do carnb. waxes make white cars look bad??

No, not at all, some are great, for example Collinte 845, M16 and S100 look great on white. However when compared to a bright sealant, they will look dull in comparison. Also, sealants tend to keep the paint cleaner, longer, enhancing the look of white.

At my company we use wax called Swissvax and have never been disapointed. Swissvax do alot of different types of wax, so you can choose one that suits your needs!

There are a lot of different answers to this. A previous poster said it best, use one that gives the appropriate look for you. Prep is the key so that either a sealant/wax will have a good base to adhere to. Carnubas tend to have a warm glow. A sealant will have a bright (sometimes artificial to some eyes)look. There are countless hybrids that will have the durabilty of a sealant but emit a warmer carnuba glow. Many will use a sealant first (for durabilty) than apply a carnuba based wax for a warmer glow.
