Hey,

I'm a college student who started detailing my neighbors cars for extra money. It is rather lucarative. I have been using Zymol and it is rather expensive ($12.00/bottle) but it does a good job. I was wondering what other products that you guys might reccomend that do a good job in making it both shiny & protective. The cheaper the better. Thanks a lot in advance.

yea i ran my own shop for a while. i used this stuff called eagle one, i only got it because it was caranuba. smelled good too. The stuff was great cause it was reasonable and came off easy and left a great shine.

you should also look into a more commercial wax, go online and buy a gallon or half gallon. you save that way too.

I guess it depends on how much $$ you want to spend up front for supplies and what your net cost per car will be.

The Zymol stuff (actually repackaged Turtle Wax) is an OK cleaner wax. Eagle One Wet Polish is very good for the price. So is Meguiar's #6 Cleaner Wax which I used frequently when I had a detailing biz. Nice thing about #6 is that you can buy by the gallon or quart and reduce your costs a bit.

If you want a good and cheap cleaner wax, look at Armor All Diamond Shine. Yeah, Armor All!! It did great at The Wax Test and sometimes you can get it for about $2.00 at places like WalMart. Can't beat that price with a stick!

As you get more into detailing for profit you'll want to stock up on various polishes and cleaners that will restore some of the nastier paint jobs and give you better results than just a one-step cleaner wax. Meguiar's and 3M are the leaders here for most folks. Both offer a big product line of excellent quality products which can also be bought in bulk.

Hope this helps.

I tried the zymol cleaner wax, and now I have hella scratches on a previously smooth surface! What can you do wrong to make this happen? Well, it did look good for a while...
