Wax on rims

Do any of you put your wax for your car on your rims?

I was thinking of doing it.. to kinda protect it and keep it cleaner for a bit longer than normal...
 
Lots of folks do that, just need to use a product that will stand up to the heat and brake dust that wheels see. Applying a sealant will make it easier to keep the wheels clean too.



Suggested LSP's are typically KSG or similar synthetics are natural carnaubas don't do well at these temperatures..



There are also dedicated products such as Poorboy's Wheel Sealant you might consider.

They make special wheel waxes for that like Swissvax Autobahn, Poor Boy's Wheel Sealant and there's a couple of others. Regular wax (most boutique waxes) won't stand up to the heat on your rims. I have PBWS but I also use Liquid Glass and Collinite on rims, as they can also withstand some heat... especially the LG.
 
Biggest (only?) downside to using regular wax is that it'll need cleaned off and redone more frequently. I used Souvern (of all things!) on the Jag's wheels for ages. That said, sealants or hybrids like Collinite are a better choice.
 
Chrome - nothing, just clean with glass cleaner



Painted - whatever I use on the car



Aluminum (not clearcoated) - nothing, clean with Z6, polish with Simichrome
 
I have turtle' wax's ice... But I totally forgot about the heat element.. So just don't even waste putting that on there huh?
 
Here is my take:



Products like Poorboys Wheel Sealant + Smart Rim wax seem to reduce the build up of brake dust and mostly just act as a barrier to stop it bonding with the wheel.



Eventually they do give up and the longer its been on there the more prone to failure it is so every month you need restort back to some kind of cleaner on the wheels and then reapply.



I have been using AG Super Resin Polish topped with EGP, seems to last nearer 10 weeks is way, way more resistant then the two wheel waxes mentioned above.



I always use Meguiars UQD now as well, it seems like there is less dust and what does end up on the wheel washes off easier.



The only downside to the AG twins is they take a while to apply and buff off, even with finger pockets. Wide spokes and less off them it seems easier to maintain!

i've got some klasse SG over AIO on my wheels... i clean them with megs UQD and it is super easy to clean every time.. doesnt repel much dust, but it only takes me 5 minutes total, so its all good.
 
Collinite IW and call it a day. Been doing it for YEARS. It is designed to be used for such an application. It blows every other product out the window in terms of durability. It makes the wheels look great too (look what it does to paint).



Just realize the minute you take a wheel cleaner to them, you'll strip off the protection no matter what you use for protection. Stick with a car soap solution to clean after you've applied the wax.

Exactly. I use whatever wax I use on my paint on my rims and never use a rim cleaner.



Ive never needed a rim cleaner anyway since I use ceramic brake pads. No dust equals not need for a rim cleaner. :)
 
DG AW here as well, applied after every washing (so quick and easy) keeps my painted wheels on two vehicles looking good. I use the leftover DG 901 from my previous wash to do wheels and tires.
 
Funny you mention this. Yesterday was the first time I did this, Wife has the silver/gray 17" wheels on her pacifica. For fun I did one with Collinite and asked her if she could tell a difference at all with the wheels. She did, of course I had to do the other three, and it looks absolutely fantastic. Don't know how it will hold up, but if it doesn't I'm def going to get some wheel wax.

Does the dust from ceramics really dont stick to the rim, or are they a lighter color?
