Wax for Las Vegas heat

On a Lexus board, I had asked a few questions to a detailer that was quitting and selling his stock of products.

I have a 2006 ES330 (Silver) that is in good condition, butI wanted to wash/clay/clean/wax it myself to be sure of the protection. He recommended that I use Poorboy's Polish (either with or without Carnauba) so I bought the "With Carbauba" version, he then said to put a layer of Poorboy's EX-P sealant (which bonds to the Carnauba).

But I was wondering if there was something I should put over the sealant. Everywhere I have seen says that Carnauba wax melts at 130 degrees F and with the Las Vegas summer here, temps can easily exceed that on painted surfaces.

Any help would be appreciated.

The poor boy that you are using is like an AIO product with some carnuba wax in it. Usually you would prep the paint then apply the sealant. Let it cure. Then put carnuba wax on it for extra protection and warm depth.

I just looked at the Collinite site, and there are no dealers here in Vegas.

Buy it on ebay. That's where I just bought and received 915, 476s, and 845. One of the sellers has a pkg deal for 45.00 with shipping. You'll get it in two days, or at least I did.

You can get Collinite online, the most durable is the 476S. If you want to use a sealant, there are much better ones than EX-P, IMO.

I haven't had much luck down here in Florida with Carnubas holding up. Unless your car is a garage queen, I don't see any benefit to using one in high temp environment. I still enjoy the ease of their application, I just don't count on them lasting more than a few washes.

How 'bout the ultimate "high temp" product? aka FK1 1000p :)

No problems with carnaubas here in the Dallas area, even on black cars (my customers and the black 626 I used to have). Pure carnauba has a low melting point but it is combined with a lot of other ingredients that similar to adding coolant to water in your radiator, raising the melting point.

I would suggest Clearkote Carnauba Moose or one of the Collinite waxes since they offer both excellent looks and durability.

Since you have silver paint though, I think a sealant would probably make you just as happy. Carnauba's appearance benefit of depth isn't as noticable on lighter colors.

Ok Setec, you got my interest. Which do you like more than EX-P?

Just to correct a previous post in this thread; EX-P does not contain Nuba. EX sealant does, EX-P doesnt.

I would think something like Wolfgang sealant 3.0 would work well in the heat!

LOL, I dunno...anything other than EX-P. It's about the last sealant I would reach for (no slickness after 1 wash, stains trim, buff it off reappears next day). Zaino seems to last the longest, KSG is good, WOWA's are easy. I had good results with M21 on one of my cars.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I haven't had any problems with the EX-P, but I am always up for trying something people think is better. I am on the Zaino website now and will see what they have.

I have some Gold Class Carnauba that I will put over the top. Anyone see a problem using that?
