Wax buildup on pinstripe decal edges

I tried a forum search to no avail. I'm detailing a 96 Pathfinder that has a set of pin stripe decals running the length of the body starting just below the fender edge.

I'm using NXT (it's already on/off) and am left with some white wax buildup along the decal edge. Tried my fingernail behind an mf towel and was partially successful.

Is there any soft brush or other tool that won't scratch the finish?

Thanks

toto i have the same problem on my 97, finally some1 with my problem! lol. mine is just extremley dirty now and the dirt/wax res is getting pushed down between the paint and sticker. i've debated pulling it off but it looks like it will just pull the paint right off with it. id love to see a pic if u had it, see if we are in a similar position

I second the "use products that don't do it" approach.

For removing the residue, I've never found a brush that's stiff enough to remove the residue while also being soft enough to do it without marring (TOL used to sell one but that was years ago and they can't get them any more).

I'd use a sharpened toothpick/swab stick. Fray the sharpened tip so it's "feathered" and soak it with something like #34 to soften it and provide some solvent action/lubrication. Be *very* gentle and take your time.

Hopefully you will understand that type of brush I speak about. One of those throwaway "acid brushes". Ya know, the rolled metal handle and 1/2 long bristles. Tape the edge of the metal handle and trim the bristles toa shorter lenght. They are soft, but stiff.

themightytimmah - I dunno....think of it this way: the build up is thicker than the "normal" wax that you want on there. Any solution/solvent that'd soften/etc. the build up might just strip the lighter "good" wax off the surrounding areas.

Or you could just let such stripping happen and then go back over it with a different product/technique.

what about a Q tip?

Yeah, that's the ticket, especially if you soak it with something like #34. I'll sometimes pull the cotton off the Q-tip and work it in tight spots with a toothpick.
