The gummy residue you speak of reminds me of tree sap. Was the car parked under a pine tree of some sort? If this is the case a bug and tar remover will work. I myself use Tarminator on my cars clear coat with no ill affects to it. I was looking at your last 2 photos and looks like a couple spots where the clear coat is separating from the paint, one or spots just behind the drivers headlight and front of the hood just to the drivers side of center. I opened picture in a webpage and enlarged but hard to tell what I am seeing. If it is clear coat failure then a respray is the only fix. Hope you get it figured out.
