Ok, calling out to all licenced comercial/professional mobile detailers here....

Have any of you had any encounters with Local (City/County/Federal) ordinances in respect to mobile washing and water run-off?

If so, what were the fines, penalties, or restrictions (if any) placed upon you and/or your company and were you required to upgraded to a water reclamation unit to continue to operate?

I obtained a new client because I reclaim. My new clients old detailer didn't reclaim and they got popped. The fine was $1000 to the detailer and $1000 to the client because it was done on commercial property.
 
Superior Shine, would you/ could you be so kind as to send me/post some info about your reclamation unit and the costs involved. A picture of it in use would be astounding.

Hey Dr. Detail, i noticed your location and i was wondering where you were located? I swear i didnt try to copy you. I would be interested in your question as well, i have seen a lot of detailers and never have i seen a reclaimation system.
 
The device I use is a vacuboom. A boom is placed in the path of the water run off. A vacuum hose is contected to one end of the boom and the water is sucked up into the vacuboom unit. When that unit is full the waste water is automaticly pumped into a waste water holding tank.

You can see in the pic that the flow of water is stopped at the boom.

A new vacuboom cost about $2300+

I have an older vacuboom that I will put up for sale soon. Anybody interested please PM me.

Do you have a lot of airplane/aviation work? Have you ever used the mat type reclamation units when auto detailing? Just wondering how the mat type units work when detailing on a smaller scale.

The mat is a a pain. It is heavy, bulky and is damaged easily. Offten you have to fold it up while it is still wet and has dirt and rocks stuck to the bottom of it. It takes up allot of room in my van.

Well, sometimes you have to improvise, $2300 is a lot of money, and the mats or dikes may be more economical........You may want to ask if you can use that captured water and irrigate the landscaping with it....I would see tht a lot safer then fertilizer in the storm drains....I run into the same problem where i live, but have dodged all bullits up to this point, plus Im mostly a Fri-Sun business.....So that helps....
