Water reclamation setup

Does anyone use any type of water reclamation setup for their washing? I know many municipalities are starting to require them due to runoff into the sewers/groundwater, as well as increased EPA oversight. The only type of reclamation setup I have noticed during my search online have been the mats that are rolled out and driven onto with a wet vacuum or sump pump of some type to capture the water. Seems time consuming and alot of hassle. There must be an easier system to capture and clean the waste water.

Also, has anyone ever seen or used the SteamJet5000 by Yujin USA, Inc (www.steamcarwash.com). Its a steam car wash machine that uses less than a glass of water to clean an entire car according to the site. Just curious to know if it really works or if its a gimmick. Thanks.

dgorila1,

Generally all car wash bays have a form of filtration to remove oils (motor oil, diesel fuel, grease), solids (dirt usually). Many of these places will have a basin where solids collect and every few months the solids are removed. Oil/Water Separators are also typical pieces of equipment.

Are you considering opening up a shop or are you referring to washing cars at the customers location?

On another note I work in the industrial waste water industry and I have heard newer regulations for water runnoff in San Diego and how much can be dumped into storm sewers.

As I understand it, water going into the runnoff drains/sewers can only contain 500ppm of solids, excessive solids and all oils need to be removed before the water can be dumped. I don't believe this rule applies to homeowners, just industry.

I'm sure other cities will take similar measures as pollution regulations increase.

I have been noticing in industry magazines that the Feds are trying to pass new laws regulating runoff from mobile washers, home washers, etc. I was researching setups for mobile detailers and the only things I really found were the roll out mat type setups. So far my area doesn't have any runoff restrictions for mobile washers that I'm aware of. I just want to be proactive when the regulations eventually come (most likely from the Feds).

I got a call today from the SteamJet5000 people. They sent me some info via email on prices. The unit costs apprx $7100 retail or $3100 for a dealer with a minimum order of 10 for the dealer. They said they have a dealer here in VA, but I've never seen one in use. I was just curious if anyone else knows of this being used anywhere.........................................
