Washing with Dawn ?'s

I want to strip my old stuff off my personal vehicle and I will start with a Dawn wash. What is a good ratio to use per gallon ??

Zero, I would never use Dawn!!!

If you are desperate to strip it off your old car (not sure why you would want to), then IPA would be a better choice.

IME Dawn doesn't do all that much stripping, so if you want to use that I'd mix it pretty strong.

I'd do a conventional-shampoo wash first as Dawn lacks lubricity (by comparison).

I'd rather use FK1119 or AutoInt/ValuGard's "A" or TOL's Prep Wash.

An IPA/Prep Wash wipedown might well be necessary anyhow.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't let this thread turn into another Dawn/not discussion.

OK no more posts , I have the FK stuff and IPA so I'll go that route.

NO MORE DAWN TALK , UNLESS IT'S ABOUT A HOT CHICK :)

I like using a few ounces of Dawn and APC right after polishing and before LSP to remove any oily residue left on the surface. I'll still do a IPA wipe down after. The cleaner the surface the better many sealants will bond.

Can't wait to get my next company car. I'm going to be exclusively using Dawn to see if any adverse affects happen.

Heh heh, now David, you know perfectly well that you'll just get shot down with some "oh, that's just one isloated case that somehow fails to satisfy my testing criteria anyhow" argument ;)

I think a good wash for stripping LSP is using a good car wash soap/shampoo, and then mix in a teaspoon of APC that's already been dilluted to 30:1. Been working great for me.
