Washing towels

Hey. I need to wash some MF towels and some regular terry towels. What is the best method? what kind of detergent if any? Any other suggestions?

sorry if this has been discussed before.

Well I would wash them seperate. (mf's and terries( and use a liquid detergent, no softener, and no bleach. I'm pretty sure just normal dry, possibly low heat. Becuae thats what I usually do and have no problems. Or you could just let them air dry. But liquid detergent only, the powdered stuff won't completely rinse out.

:EDIT: Also don't put anything else in with them.

that is what i have been doing with my MF's and i just used 2 of them for some QD-ing and it looks like the marred the paint

bad day for me :(

I use powder soap if no liquid is available. Just put the powder in the machine first as the water is filling the tub. I let it start agitating a bit before you throw the M.F.'s in.

To get a good rinse, i run the cycle again, this time with no soap.

Everything gets taken out! Then personally, I hang them to dry every time.

Cheers!

I used to use powdered detergent, BIG mistake. The detergent seems to never rinse out completely and caused my mf's to start scratching my cars.

Now I use Micro-Restore as a detergent, and use hot water for the wash and warm water rinses. After one full cycle, I run the machine again using vinegar in the first cycle (hot water) and then warm rinse again. Two full cycles total, and my towels have never been cleaner or softer.

I just started washing my towels in Micro-Restore and felt it made a HUGE difference. Much clearner and softer than liquid detergent and the drying ability of my WW's much improved. Haven't tried it with hot water, only warm, but will give it a go. I'm kind of leery of the vinegar approach. Vinegar is a weak acid *acetic acid* but it is still acid going from the dispenser to the machine washtub. Is it put in the detergent dispenser or the bleach one. The bleach dispenser probably can handle the acid...but I don't really know. Has any one ever asked the washing machine manufacturer?

I'm lacking on the scientific reasons why vinegar works so well, but a very high percentage of the people here use it. There are a few people who know all the PH levels of the various products and can tell you why it does what it does. Anyway, vinegar is awesome. If you do a search, there are very extensive discussions on this topic asking what the best way to clean mf is. The vinegar acutally helps disolve the left over detergents, thus leaving the towels softer and cleaner than without. I don't use a dispenser or anything, just let the washer fill up and pour a little right in there. I was told to only use the 5% distilled white vinegar which happens to be the stuff at the grocery, very cheap. I even use a little vinegar in my regular washes every now and then to give them a like new feel again. You would be surprised at how much detergent is left in your clothes after washing.

My grandma used vinegar in the wash before they ever had fabric softeners. This is not a new trick.

Same here, folks in my family have been doing it since forever too.

And yeah, Micro Restore really is as good as they say :xyxthumbs

I've been using liquid arm and hammer and drenching the MF's in Shout stain remover- It seems to get rid every single stain. I thne put them through the rinse cycle twice to remove any left over shout. I also used shout to remove Metzerna IP and FPII from some Megs pads. Worked really well.

But is this a bad thing to do? Is the vinegar a better idea? - I use the shout mostly because detergent alone won't get them clean in cold water.

I'm not trying to jack this thread, but my question relates.

My waffle weave MF drying towel and one of my regular MF got mixed up in the wash with regular clothes. I know you are supposed to wash MF's separately, and I always have, but someone who shall remain nameless washed my MF's with their clothes. I'm wondering if it is still ok to use the two towels that got mixed in with regular clothes on my car or if they are done and I need to buy some new ones?
