Washing floor mats

Hey guys. Got a quick question.-> Has anyone ever washed carpetted floor mats in a washing machine? I'm thinking it may be bad for the rubber backside or something but seems like it might be quick and easy.

That seems like a good idea...will they fit? I'm not sure that the rigidity of them won't compromise the cleaning effectiveness of the washing machine agitation. Other members suggest blowing the mats out with compressed air to get the loose imbedded dirt out and/or pressure washing them.

I once destroyed the backing on a pair by putting them in the washer. Just hosing them of and scrubbing+hang them to dry is good.

Yeah. I think its risk. Sounds like it depends alot of they type and manufacturer. I think i'll just do it with the wet/dry vac. I'd rather have a clean one, than forking out the $ for a new one! Thanks for the replies guys!

My wife would kill me if I put grungy floor mats in her washing machine!

About 20 years ago I put my fake spoke wheel covers in the dishwasher! My wife didn't "spoke" to me for a while!

I have used the washing machine and dryer even before, but only with a stationary dryer. I have not found any OEM mats that will seperate, i have tried: audi, VW, Honda, Acura, Nissan.

I have seen non-OEM mats that look like they would seperate very easily.

The mats are Ford oem. Thanks for the replies.

Setec. My washing machine is a heavy duty with the x-large tub. I think they'd fit but like you said, I'm not sure if the agitation of the washer would be all that effective.

Hey Setec, you must like "Sneakers". Thats a good ole flick.

I would suggest taking them down to a laundromat and using one of their bigger commercial washers rather than your own. That way if it causes any problem with the machine, it's not yours. Cheap insurance. I've just always vacuumed with my Rigid and then hosed them down, apply APC then scrub. To clean them I first scrub with a brush loosening any embedded soil then turning the hose on power wash to get all the soap and dirt out, then hang to dry. Finish up with a quick vacuum and they're done.

I have used the pressure washer and some APC with a scrub brush. The pressure washer usually gets out a lot of stuff that I wouldn't want in my washing machine. ;)

Good luck,

Randy

Okay guys. I'll do it by hand with the wet/dry vac. 94BlkStang- Hows that Slick Stuff??

Working good Cooter. I don't use it a lot as it's used mainly in non critical areas such as door jambs or clay lube as my go to QD is Quickshine and I can't imagine anything available better than it as it's one of my favorite products.

QuickShine is some good QD. I got some FK425 a few months ago and I'm really impressed with this stuff. But you know, QD's are like waxes. There's a ton out there and they do a really good job. Its like everything else- If it performs like you want it to, stick with it. I got so many qd's I could qd a fleet of school buses. You know how it goes.
