Do you guys wash after the cutting and polish process? I spoke with local detailers and i was told two things - the first one washed after the cut and polish process and the second did not. So, what does the "book" say about this? What works well for you guys?

Hello, normally what works best for me is to wash the car completely, then to avoid washing the car again, I cover all the outside moldings with masking tape. After I buff and polish I just use a QD to finish up my work, it saves me a lot of time and also I help cities to save water.

Welcome to Autopia!

Generally, washing is a good idea. Even if removing the polishing oils and/or other residual stuff isn't called for, polish/compound dust and residue (and even excess product) can get into out of the way places and then come back to cause trouble after the next rain/wash.

I sure can't say that I've *always* washed after doing correction, but it's usually the right thing to do and IMO you usually run a risk if you skip it.

IME, its pretty much unavoidable to have to wash the car afterwards, especially with polishes/compounds that dust alot like Menzerna for example.

When you say after you buff then polish...does that mean like for buffing after you wash and dry you put a polishing bad on the buffer, and buff? And if so, what benefits does it have?

"Buff *and* polish", not "buff *then* polish" ;)

I think WRXsubaru2010 just worded it a little vaguely; that what he meant was "after I do processes involving abrasive products.."

I foam the car with a alkalie to remove some dust, but mostly to clean the paint before I apply the lsp.

Yeah, that's good :xyxthumbs Last time I did a thorough post-correcion wash I used AutoInt/ValuGard's "A" for the same reason. Those alkaline washes sure get the polishing oils off.

Yup^^^ - If that doesn't create a bare surface I don't know what will? I've been having great luck doing a Dawn wash (with a thorough powerwashing) and then a quick Alcohol wipedown to prep the surface for protection.
