Wash Buckets and Grit Guards

Do a search of the forum archives for "Langka". I think you'll find that most people who tried it were disappointed with it
 
I just tried on my truck for practice before I try it on my Maxima. It did not work well but I think I started rubbing too soon - it 'rubbed' out more paint than I wanted (i.e. repair paint was below level of existing surface). I plan to try again this weekend. I plan to try post some pics if I can get it to work somewhat to my satisfaction.
 
I've used Langka with varying degress of success. It takes a bit of practice to get the timing just right. It doesn't seem to hurt anything if you get it wrong, you just have to try again (I believe it's more forgiving than sandpaper). Most of my failed attempts have removed too much touch up paint.

Plasti-Kote has what they call a "leveler" that comes in a bottle like their brush touch up paints. I have used it with what appears to be similar results to those described above for Langka. Does anyone know if these products are similar? This stuff is available at my Pep Boys for the same price as touch up paint (a lot cheaper than Langka).
 
I believe Mothers has taken over the marketing of this product for Spring of this year. Hopefully we can get Forrest to comment on the use of the product. I remember severl comments about it not working as promised.....maybe we all need a course in it.;)
 
I had enough success with it that we now have the rights to the automotive aftermarket and mass merchant trade. It will be sold as "California Gold Paint Chip Repair", part #08540.



It does have a learning curve - but, as others have said, most of the problems come from using it too long - removing too much of the touch up paint. I've had the best success with it by letting the touch up paint dry for 24 hours - the harder it is, the less chance there is for too much touch up paint to be removed.



And, the price will be quite a bit less than what it is sold over the internet for.



It's another niche product - won't be a great mover, but, for the average consumer, it's much safer than some 2000 sand paper.
 
I have used Langka with some success. I think I will try it again on my neighbours car and wait for 24 hours :D



Forrest, do you apply a clear coat over the repaired chip?

bobg - the touch-up paints I've used it with so far are of the type that do not require a second touch-up with a clear:



My wife's 2002 Mazda MPV

My 2001 PT Cruiser

My 1998 Contour SVT



Some of the high end manufacturer's touch-ups have 2 bottles - the base, and then a clear. In these cases, you use the product (Langka) after the base; clean the surface (alcohol); then apply the clear. Then use the Langka again to finish it off.
 
As much as I know these two seperate things deserve their own thread I am going to fit them both into this one :biggrin:

I've read recently about people having trouble with grit guards fitting their buckets.

This bucket fits perfectly. As you can see if you have a bucket that fits the grit guard this perfectly you can then hold it upside down to rinse without taking out the guard.

And here is an ingenious way not to allow dust to land in you bucket... Although I can't help but rinse it before each use anyway.

Ok, I'll admit that last image was a bit desperate but at least it isn't clouds :thumbup:
 
I feel really crappy now! If I win I want TID to give half to you. (I just want some wheel woolies) Not sure if those are valid with the contest though.

I was just joking. I do not want anybody to feel bad. If you win, you win. I am having a great time with this contest. I love all the action on the forum when TID does the Kahuna.

BTW, the wollies are included, since they are one of the product lines that are being offered in the contest.
