I am one that grew up with him on the screen. I mourn his passing. His communications skills were such that other broadcasters should live by. A true loss to us all.

I can still remember, when the CBS evening news came on TV, my brothers and I had to be quiet, so that our parents could listen to the news. As I grew older, I would watch Walter tell the news. I missed him when he retired from the CBS Evening News.
