Walmart Window Tint

I was at walmart this afternoon durring the lunch hour buying some quick detailing spray and saw this do it yourself window tint.

sorry i can't remember the brand but it said something about limo dark grade.

anyways now that the car is looking decent after a thorough detail tinted window might look good.

i have heard horror stories (tint bubbling) about this kind of tint, and didn't know if it was the tint or the person applying the tint that caused the bubbles anyone got their 2¢ on the subject?

Unless you are willing to spend the time to learn how to get tint film to conform to the compound curves of your rear windshield, I would leave it up to a pro. Flat glass is relatively easy to do, but when you use a cheaper tint like that available at Wal-Mart, it is usually dyed, and will turn purple after a year or so. I would look around for a good tint shop that uses high quality metal films, or even high quality dyed films that have a guarantee. You should be able to find a place that will tint your car for $150-$175 depending on the type of film and the number of windows.
 
GET IT DONE PROFESSIONALLY!

It will cost about $30-35/ side window and $50-70 for the rear glass. Good brands are llumar or 3m. Get a metalized tint, not dyed.

ps. I would not get limo (5%), I think it looks ghetto. Something in the 15%-35% range usually looks more respectable and "factory original"

Oh, just FYI, "Limo Tint" is illegal in Ohio and will get you a $145 ticket. The maximum tint % permitted in Ohio is 50%.
 
My cousin's friend used tint from Wal-Mart and it did in fact turn purple after only a few years.

I didn't believe you about 50% being the max in Ohio since even Masachusetts allows 35%, but I looked it up and you're right! That is INCREDIBLY weak. 50% would be like having no tint at all...35 is not even enough and certainly doesn't have a significant negative effect on visibility in *any* conditions I have ever driven in. Friggin politicians always making laws for no good reason. I can almost understand the 35% laws, but 50% is a step way too far. Personally I wish Mass allowed 20%

I wonder if they'd still give me a ticket on my way to work

I have read similar things when I was looking up the tint laws but according to what I have heard it is NOT legal to do that. There is some federal law about how states have to respect the authority of other state's governments, so if your car is registered in another state they can't give you a ticket because you are in compliance with the laws of the state in which your car is registered. I think it would be absoloutely absurd to give an out of state car a tint ticket...if I lived in Phoenix and needed the tint to keep me from baking alive in my car, why should I have to rip the tints off if I drive the car to Ohio for a trip...that's not fair at all.

I live in KY too. Kentucky has a tint law as well. It differs for each of the windows. Here is a nice state by state breakdown of the requirements. http://www.madefortheshade.net/doc/laws.html Kentucky requires that tinting be certified as well meaning that a sticker has to be placed on the car stating that the tint is legal.
