Video: Opti Coat vs Aquartz

I have read some pretty disappointing posts about Klasse. Some say it hazes or swerls ect. Anyway, I have been using it and have had fair results. Anyway, my question is really not about that. Rather, I have read that oils should be resorted back into the paint using a glaze or polish like P21s paint cleaner or 3M IHG. Is that true? I would think that in general, the synthetics don't do that. Any thoughts are welcome my friends. Regards, Cliff :)

Your paint is sealed in with a layer of clearcoat. It does not need any oils or replenishment. A synthetic sealant is the best protection that you could put on your car and you are doing fine. If KLASSE is only giving you fair results, there are other systems out there to try out. What color car?

You should be able to find an equal number of pleased Klassers. My results have been great.

As DK said there are a wealth of products out there many tested here for you already :)

Check out this thread posted a few days ago...... Aesthetically on Silver: Klasse or Zaino?

Consensus says Zaino. I can also say that zaino gives a silver car a certain type of glow that I have never seen with any other product. Zaino is very easy to use, and most of us apply and remove it by hand. There are a few users that do use the PC, so if you are content on using it, ask and I am sure they will come front and center and answer your questions.

Good luck!

Cliff.....Zaino is best applied by hand. It should be applied in extremely THIN layers. You should probably reserve the PC use for the prep of the paint, getting it swirl and scratch free and polished to perfection! When you get to the Zaino, put the PC away and pamper your car with a hand "application" ......(job just did not sound proper.....)

H

Sorry to hear that you are disappointed with Klasse. I have been using Klasse on the Vette for about a year now and am highly pleased with the results - no smearing or hazing problems. The finish has a nice candy coated look to it. On top of the Klasse I have Pinnacle Souveran which adds amazing depth and richness.

Hopefully you will find a system that works out better for you. :up

Hmm…

DK is correct as paint is sealed with a clearcoat and cannot soak in any oils. However, “they might have first meant that your paint should be polished with an abrasive containing lubricating oils before you seal the paint with Klasse. The oils wont soak in the paint, but will definitely help remove swirls or surface problems.

You see Klasse and most other polymer sealants such as Zaino are different from most products. Its purpose is to bond to the paint and seal leaving a reflective, protective layer. But if you use it over an improperly prepped vehicle, it will do no good.

What do you mean by fair results? Not much better than new? Silver is harder to have a “shine compared to darker colors. I suggest you to completely give your car a Dawn wash and try a paint cleaner such as Pinnacle PCL or P21S. Then use a mild abrasive such as 3M SMR or Meguiar’s #7 2.0 preferably with a PC to remove any surface problems like swirls or oxidation. Wash your car again with Dawn to remove any oils as it will prohibit bonding before applying the Klasse.

Remember, techniques are much more important than the product alone. So keep practicing and experiment with the application. Use plush Microfiber towels or thick 100% cotton bath towels and foam applicators. I think of detailing like painting… an experienced artist with quality brushes and cheap Crayola paint would paint <em class='bbc'>much[/i] better than an inexperienced adult with expensive Grumbacher paints and cheap toothbrushes.

Good luck and most importantly, have fun!

Welcome to the forum!

Hi Huys! Thanks for the feedback! It was most helpful. I think I will stick to the Klasse for now or untill I use it up. "BW," I think your point about using a paint cleaner like P21s before I use Klasse is a good one. Also, I have not been washing the car with dawn after using that product so that may account for lack of bonding. Regards, Cliff

BW is correct on many accounts. By the way, there is a huge Klasse following here. And its attained this high status for a very good reason. I would also recommend to use Klasse AIO before you apply Klasse SG. Those products are made as a system and the AIO should definitely be used on cars at least a year old or so. Definitely. It will also prep the surface quite nicely and help ensure a great Klasse SG bond. Laters

I think Don means that after a year a car's paint will need additional polishing to remove inevitable swirls, stains, dullness, etc. Even a car fresh from the paint booth needs a little polishing to bring out it's best gloss.

I have had excellent results using AIO followed by SG (usually three coats) and I follow up with Souveran. I am just not seeing the clouding others see, it may be generally warmer temps. in Houston.

I never stated that Klasse AIO should only be used on cars that are over a year old. I said that it should definitely be used on a car that is a year old. Point being, if you're going the Klasse SG route, its a very good idea to use Klasse AIO prior to that. The reasons being have already been discussed by Bret.

By the way, if you read some of my other posts, I've always stated that I would have no problem at all using Klasse AIO on a brand new car. None! Laters

My car got filthy driving through a construction site after the recent rain. I wanted to shoot a video comparing the 2 products (and now I want to do it when I get the Cquartz on) showing the difference in how they handle water. The ending was a bit of a surprise to me. This makes me want to try out my new Cquartz even more!!

Thats a neat video! I have Opti-Coat and am playing around with it more and more, but so far I have been really impressed. What is the price differance between Opti-Coat and Aquartz? I know Opti-coat is $100 for 3-4 applications.
