VIDEO: Opti Coat Application

Optimum Coating was the original product available only to pros who signed a waiver. It's is now known as Opti-Coat Pro.

Opti-Coat 2.0 was a diluted version of Opti-Coat Pro, tweaked to be easier to use and easier to correct if errors were made. It was based on the original formulation and didn't receive updates as Opti-Coat Pro did. It has been discontinued because of public confusion between the consumer and pro versions.

Gloss Coat is the new hybrid consumer coating. It has very high gloss, easy to apply, and two year durability. It is not the same product as Opti-Coat 2.0. It can also be used to top Opti-Coat Pro for that slick "just waxed' feel.

Opti Guard was originally what we were going to call the interior and exterior coatings collectively. Because the interior coating took longer to develop, some started calling Opti Coat as Opti Guard. We have since dedicated that name only for the interior coatings available to pro only installers ie Opti-Guard Leather/Vinyl and Opti Guard Fabric.

Chris,

Good to see you posting. Any chance you can tell me if the GLoss Coat application differes in anyway form the OC 2.0 application.

I have 2 tubes of GC on the way to me. Thanks,

Lastly,

Its cold and anything here, is there any issue with freeze in transit damage?

Thanks

It's the easiest coating to apply we have ever made. Actually, it's easier that Opti Seal even. No worry for it to freeze.

Does gloss-coat have any hydrophobic effect? I live in south Florida and rain/water spots are the biggest challenge to keeping a daily driven car clean so I'm looking for a coating that can shed water well in addition to all the other things I know coatings protect from.

I'm at about 6 months with Gloss-Coat on my car and it's holding up great in South Florida (Stuart). It rained this morning and when I went outside for lunch it looked like I just washed my car. This stuff is very hydrophobic.

Since we're talking about Gloss-Coat, I have a question. OC 2.0 was highly chemical resistant, which was great for contaminants like tar, which could be cleaned off with a solvent without effecting the OC 2.0, whereas with a wax or sealant, the solvent would generally remove the LSP.

How does Gloss-Coat hold up to things like IPA, mineral spirits, Iron-X, Tar-X, FerreX, etc.?

Now throw some synergy on it and let me see :D

Chris,

Since I just got 2 tubes of gloss coat, I would like to know this as well.

I will be recoating 2 vehicles that were coated with Opti-Coat 2.0 about 2 years ago. Any special prep? My idea is to wash, Ferrex., Nano skin pad it (fine), clay other area can get to w/Pad using ONR as Lube, Hopefully only polish with a polishing pad and finish polish to out any Micro Marring or nonsense I have collected. Wipe down 2X with IPA or Eraser. (Is there a difference as far as OG is concerned-I have both on hand). Apply OG with suede applicator 2 coat on paint, trim, headlights and wheels. Optimum Glass Coating will be re-applied, it is holding well and better than the OC 2.o.

Use hyper polish as your polish, damp microfiber wipedown for any unseen residue, skip the IPA because Hyper is awesome.

Chris, we were also asking about the chemical resistance of Gloss-Coat, and whether say, if we got tar on it, we could wipe that off with mineral spirits or IPA without affecting the Gloss-Coat the way we could with OC 2.0? And what about Iron-X, Tar-X, FerreX?
