would changing the counter weight change this?

Only if you are using a 6" backingplate with a 5" counterweight. The consensus around here is that the 6" counterweight is better all around than the 5". If you have the 7336 you already have the 6" counterweight. If you have the 7424, you have the 5" and the 6" can be purchased at Coastaltool.com for just a few bucks. The shipping costs more than the part unfortunately.

I would agree with TW85 HHI and say that it is just because of the firmer pad, nothing to worry about. A trick that works is to remove the handle and hold the PC by the *head*, this reduces the felt vibrations a LOT. It's a little weird at first, but you will soon find that is much easier this way and more manageable.

I was having the same problem with my PC 7424 easy trick is just to turn down to around 5000 to 5500 RPMs and it runs fine. I don't have much expierence with the PC but I don't think running it at 5.5 can't get out anything that running it at 6 wouldn't just run it slower along the surface. With the green pad however I never had a problem really cranking it all the way to 6.

Another thing that might accentuate the vibration of the firmer Sonus pad is the backing-plate. I received a Sonus BP that was not perfectly formed. Its thickness varied so it would make the pad *bounce/vibrate* up and down. You might want to check that is not part of the problem. David replaced it, no problems.

Here's a photo. Notice that the right side is thicker than the left. (The pad is also poorly cut, but the thickness of the pad is even):
