GOT PREP?
This Vette has been used and abused!!! The owner bought it used and was going to pay to have it repainted. Someone referred him to me (the guy with the black Suburban if you remember) and I was hired to “do the best you can. He’s no longer planning on repainting it. :D

The clear was SUPER hard and was marred pretty seriously. There were also areas of repaints that much softer.

After a few test combos were performed, the final process that I used was:

Wash

Clay with Meguiars aggressive clay

Meguiars #84 via rotary polisher @1750 RPM’s with a wool cutting pad

Meguiars #84 via rotary polisher @150 RPM’s with a meguiars polishing pad

Meguiars #83 via rotary polisher @1500 RPM’s with a meguiars polishing pad

Meguiars #80 via PC @5.5 with a meguiars polishing pad

Meguiars Medallion premium paint protectant via PC and a Meguiars finishing pad

Windows cleaned with NXT GC and a WW MF.

Tires dressed with Meguiars Hyper dressing 1:1

Interior was very clean. I just vac’ed, “degreased with Costco APC 10:1

Total time 6 hours.

The engine was degreased with “MAGNUM then dressed with Eagle One Pro Water Based dressing (1:1)

I covered the ECU with clear plastic and electrical tape.

Awesome work man. That's a really great job, looks brand new in the after pictures - and I know how hard 'Vette paint can be too. I can imagine the owner about fainted when he saw it?

Looks amazing! Just as a warning on those engines for next time though, I wouldn't use water in the engine bay. The reason, it has a thing called opti-spark in the front of the engine that, when wet fries and the car wont run right. Now this doesn't happen with all, but I have heard too many horror stories about this so just wanted to let ya know for next time.

Simply Stunning! :bow :bow :bow :bow :bow

I often see Meguiars having that ""menzerna" type wet look. I love it.

Thanks man!!

Yeah, IMO, the Meguiars 80 series REALLY excel when used with the rotary and IMHO, they have no equal. At least for *my* process.

Pontman43, thanks for the info!! That would have really been bad, I will kep that in mind.

Simply superb! :bow

I agree with how hard the paint on 'Vettes can be. With all the hazing and swirls gone, the car look so much blacker! Also shows how good Meguiars 80 series is. As much as I love Optimum, on black, Meguiars has a *slightly* richer look.

funny, i've been away a little while,,, and its good to see my favorites (Megs #80 series) getting some good comments...(especially from the veterans!!)

when all the new hype of "the next new product" fades away,, Its a tried and true product that shines on.....and on.

BTW, good job as always. I've gone strait from #85, to #80 with great results and quick to boot.

Thanks guys!!

Scott, yes I agree the Optimum is a very nice line, but when I have to do serious correction I always reach for the Meguiars 80's series. Perhaps it is becasue I learned on their products.

steck, agreed and if my rotary skills were better I think that you could go from 84/85 with a cutting pad to #80/83 with a finishing pad straight to LSP. Unfortunately, I still have a bit of learning to do with the rotary and I am forced to step down to finer polishes with the rotary AND the PC. I am getting there though. :hairpull

Damn, I must say that is one of the best transformations I've seen on here in a long time. Corvette paint can definitely be tough to work with.

I can tell you take pride in your work because you went the extra mile in yor process and took some nice full sun shots for everyone to see instead of parking it in the shade.

Stunning transformation, you did an amazing job. You probably spent the entire day, but believe me, it shows!! Great work!

Unreal! Did the owner bow down and call you master? What an amazing turn around. All of that in 6 hours. I'm sitting here shaking my head.

Thanks guys!! I am still a bit sore from the detail. :) I drove about 150 miles round trip to do this detail, but it was soooo worth it!!!

Simply stunning! You do excellent, excellent work. I enjoy reading and seeing your work. I really got to get me some Hyper dressing, I am loving the look. I'd say your pretty darn good with the rotary to do all those steps in six hours. I just did a Cougar this past Saturday, only a two step plus Interior and it took me 7 hrs with a Cyclo. I really got to figure something out........

Absolutely superb work!

I don't find Meguiar's Premium Paint Protection mentioned much - I'm tempted to try it, but it's £20 (around $35) on Meguiar's U.K. website.
