Velcro care of LC PC pads

The velcro on my LC pads (7.5") is failing. Is there a method to rejuveniate the velco or is this a problem after several uses.

Love the pads. Hate the weak velco.:(
 
Yeah my one pad is the same way. I have always taken very good care of it and never put it in the wash machine. Always washed by hand and air dryed. :(
 
What do you mean failing? Its lost its bond with the foam of the pad?





I have had others that the velcro lost its bond with the pad and I reattached it with spray adhesive .. Aim SprayBond B707 .. prolly no different than 3M spray contact cement.
 
I must eat crow and correct my assumption that the LC velco was my problem. I received a new CMA backing plate for my rotary and notice that the velco on this plate was must better. Tried my LC pads and WOW I could hardly detach them.

It was not the LC pads but the "free" backing plate I got with my PC. Live and learn. :wavey

I'm having the same problem- could you explain this some more? Do those pads that hardly stick to your old backing plate stick like glue to your new backing plate? I compared the "stickyness" of an old pad with a new pad on my backing plate which I got in my Coastal Tool kit, and the new pad stuck much better. Will getting a new (better) backing plate cure my woes?

The new backing plate from CMA fixed my problem. The pads that barely stuck to the old plate are now actually difficult to detach from the new plate. I believe this is due to "construction" not "age" of CT backing plate. The velco receiving texture of the CMA backing plate is substantially thicker. The "free" backing plate I got from CT works good with new pads (just got my order from Meguiar's) but after a few washes the LC backing plate looses some, in some cases all, its ability to hold the pads securely.

The CMA backing plate holds my older and brand new pads equally well.

Funny how fast orbitals chew up pads much quicker than rotaries... with our dewalt orbital, it eats up the edges of the velcro pad in about 10 uses or so, especially with cma, 3m and meg pads (lc has a plastic edge so it doesn't do that with our lc pads). Our pads used with rotaries lasts at least 30 uses or so.



Note that we use a rotary 5x more often than an orbital.
 
Does anyone know the part number of the 6-inch velcro pad from CMA that is being recommended? I just want to make sure I'm going to order the right one. Also, when you guys say CMA's backing plate has a better velcro surface, you're comparing it to the 6-inch Porter Cable velcro pad (part#18002 that comes with the Costal Tool package)? Thanks
