I`ve been thinking about putting together a bag of random tools to keep in my truck. Any of you guys done this? If so, what`d you put in it?

I keep a plastic tote whenever i am leaving town with the the pick up. I keep a small jack, a couple of foot long 4x4`s, couple cotton towels, random wrench set and socket set. Quart of oil, qt of transmission fluid, some sota silicone lube, couple screw drivers and a hammer.
I say all that and i am hoping you meant that and not detailing tools. Anyways, i like to be able to have that stuff so i can attempt to fix most of what comes.
After thinking about it, there are also a utility knife, pliers, duct tape. Just never know what you will need when running from NW Iowa to either Wyoming for snowmobiling or to Ohio for the in laws.

Going from memory here but I try to keep the following in my vehicles:
A flexible socket set like this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009L8GEPM
A pair of very big channel locks for anything else
Multi-bit screwdriver
decent selection of zip ties
couple of large hose clamps
duct tape
tire plugs and air pump
Cheap scan tool or bluetooth OBDII adapter (Torque for Android!)
knife/scissors if you don`t normally carry a multi-tool
A lot depends on your car. For example on some german cars (thanks VW!) you can`t pack light, too many stupid torx and other various specialty tools. I think you just have to plan around for what things you could possibly fix roadside. The reality is, real roadside repairs are dangerous thanks to people driving like idiots, it just pays to get towed to a dealership or an auto parts store that loans tools.

the fat max makes a decent detail bag too.
Back in the late 70’s 80’s and 90’s I always carried a metal craftsman toolbox with tray in the top. I couldn’t afford to have anything decent to drive. One time in nags head the ignition module quit on me in my 76 caprice classic. Luckily it broke down in front of a Napa store. Have new vehicle with extended warranty now. If I did carry tools I would have a 12 volt test light, spark tester also. Maybe some fuses too and the other stuff mentioned

Oh yeah, that test light reminded me I carry a $5 HF multimeter.
I carry a Blackjack tire plug kit and a portable air pump.
A flashlight, few flares for safety and a reflective vest.
I prefer to carry my AAA card in my wallet for anything else that goes wrong with my car. (Or anyones else`s)
My wife has the card too.
I`m not trying to do a repair on the side of the road these days.

Sockets, wrenches, pliers, tape, zip ties, cutters, wire stripper, some wire, fuses, an acc belt for the car it is in, misc bulbs, hose pieces. This is in a small bag in my daily driver and if I take my Firebird on a trip to a show or something farther away I usually will load up with some more misc things.

I don`t really carry much in the way of tools these days, not all that much that either Accumulatorette or I will actually fix on any of the current vehicles. The Audis all have decent enough oe kits for the most part, the Crown Vic is as reliable as sunrise, and the Tahoe seldom goes too far from home. And yeah, a cell phone and AAA card can go a long ways, just be careful how others behave around your vehicle.
Every vehicle always has water, sanitizing wipes, a flashlight, an edged tool of some type, disposable gloves, a blanket, water, and some kind of 1st Aid kit (dog-haulers always have Quick-Clots and other dog-centric stuff). And always = ALWAYS, rentals included.
We do (always) carry both duck (no not the brandname, and not "duct") and electrical tape, a tire gauge, mini-jumper cables, flares/reflectors, and and a multi-tool in whatever vehicle we use for a real roadtrip, which have come in handy a few times (e.g., the S8`s Deer Incident).
We do keep an air compressor of the "just fills tires" variety in the Tahoe (under-vehicle spare = hassle). Changing tires isn`t that big a deal on the others, not like Accumulatorette needs help with a spare or anything...
And of course, we both carry the EDC/"don`t leave home without it" stuff, at least a flashlight and knife of some kind no matter what, every single time we go anywhere.
