Vector Polisher..

For what its worth on the cheap rotary front, PC 7428's are regularly going NIB on ebay in the $80-100 range.. there are some cheap Milwaukee rotaries there as well.

what do you people using the vectors use for a backing plate and what pads are you using on it as well

you could get the one from top of the line or any other place as far as backing plates. and for pads i prefer the flats over the vc. just my opinion and get better results.

so i could get a 6" foam backing plate to use the velcro pads on and where can i purchase this for my polisher? that way i can buy the pads listed on this site i just need the correct backing plate and cant find one that will work to use the pads and bonnets listed on this store

thanks so i can get the 4.75 backing plate and use 6.5" pads sold for the porter cable unit or just get the 6" backing plate and use 7-8" pads. at least i now know i have options now to learn how to properly use this polisher

im going to have to get one this year as well. too good of a deal on a seemingly decent rotary that i can learn on.

god as if i spent enough on detailing polishes. you all are my wallet's nemeses.

i love the vector rotary... scott, you should definitely give it a try and give us your professional opinion... this is the first rotary i've used for an extended period of time (3-4 months) before it, i used an older dewalt unit, which was too heavy imo, and recently, i picked up the chicago powertools rotary for $30, and am selling it after 20 mins use... it was way too light and small for me... the too small might be because i got used to the size of the vector, but the weight is definitely something i hate on the chicago one, since the vector is top heavy and very easy to control... i've been wanting to pick up a hitachi or makita unit but i'm scared i'll get similar results as with the chicago one, in it being too light and small

can someone compare the size (length and weight) of the 4... hitachi, vector, makita and chicago one??

that would be great, at least for me, to figure out how everything else compares to the vector

long story short, i really like the vector and don't see myself switching to another "better" rotary like makita or hitachi since it's working just fine

scott, like i said, i would really like your opinion, and comparison to what you're using now, hopefully makita or hitachi, so go waste some more money :D

you can just get one backing plate and use both pads... well for me, i use the 6" backing plate from properautocare.com with both their 6.5 and 7.5 multi surface pads

stay with the vector then. no need to upgrade if your happy and comfortable wit hyour lil rotary there :)

IMO The Harbour Freight Rotary was the biggest waste of money and time to grab. Save up for the Hitachi! It's well worth the money.

while were on the topic of harbor freight, trying very hard not to be negative. . . . there is a reason you can buy a brad nailer for 15$. . . . . just like the reason they have steel reserve and natural ice beer . . . .

so i checked out the autozone website and they only have a vector random orbit buffer - im wondering if they will have the vector rotary at the local autozone by my house . . . id be willing to go buy it even though i bought a hitachi- especially if i can return the thing without having to pay shipping charges . . . .

If you find it at your local autozone, dont hesitate to pick it up. Not only do i think its good for the price, but you also get a store warranty. So if you decide that its not for you then just return it. But make sure you ask them first cause thats what my store had given me.

I went to my local Auto Zone last night to pick up the Vector unit. I had called a few weeks ago to see if they had it in stock and they told me yes. So I go in looking for it and I only see the Vector random orbital on their shelves. I ask about the circular unit and they say "whatever is on our shelves is all we have". I asked them if there was another part of the store that it could be at. The guy went looking and came back to the counter and said "is this what you want?" I saw the picture on the box and sure enough it was a circular polisher. I was excited but right before I whipped out my wallet I took a closer look at the box and I noticed that the brand was NOT Vector. :doh

It looks like the guy I talked to over the phone didn't quite understand me when I asked if it was a Vector unit. He just saw a 7" circular polisher and assumed thats what I was looking for.

I know that if Auto Zone can carry their orbital buffer than they've got to be able to get the circular. Time do some calling around on Tuesday...

yeah . . i ran into the same exact problem you did . . .guy had no clue what i was talking about . . . oh well...the hitcahi will sufice. i was just hopeing to get one soon and not halft to wait for shipping time . . .

Im in on this one. I've been wanting to step up to a rotary and here's my chance.

54.00.....thats like a single wash/vac!
