Actually I would have thought it was a good idea. I think I've heard the same thing myself.

Some folks use to do that in the 80's I remember, they had a heck of a time to remove it.

I would figure an apc or (uhh ohh) dish detergent would do it.

LOL! You're absolutely right, Jay. I came to the same conclusion... then got a brilliant idea! Why not skip the Pam step and remove the love bugs with the Bug Stuff?

apc and I have a mf mesh covered sponge from walmart,together they'll get any bug off mine

Never used vaseline for protection, usually it was a rubber good.

Possibly soaking it in some sort of cleaning solution or something with mild acid - like Cola.
