V12 garage queen detail

Sheesh, Maxy, I asked you if it was an XJ-S, and you said it was an XJ12 coupe...which would be a different animal (if they actually made them...I don't remember). We used to have Jag dealer a couple towns over and my friends and I used to go over and gawk at the XJ-S's back in the day, although they didn't have the dual fuel tanks like the XJ sedans. Cracking came out good; what did the customer say?

PS I see your U-Haul in the background ;)

Sorry Setec you were right about it being an XJ-S.

The customer said that the car looked beautiful, I did an excellent job, the cracks look much better, etc...

Yep that's the Uhaul trailer. We're loading it up tonight. My fishtanks, fishing/kayaking gear, and detailing stuff are riding in/on the Protege.

Gorgeous! I'm very impressed by what was acomplished with the GEPC. A quick and maybe silly question. Exactly how did you apply the VM to the windows? Every time I have tried this, I get spmearing and streaking with the wipers. I know alot of people here use it on the windows, I must be removing it incorrectly. What's your technique? Thanks

I apply VM by hand with a Meg's yellow foam applicator. I put it on kinda thick...otherwise it always smears on me. :nixweiss

I never have any problems with my wipers when I use VM on the glass. I get problems with most waxes though, and AIO too.

Very nice, thanks for sharing this one. By the looks of it that one must've lived an easier life than mine did (before I made mine a garage-queen too). His build-quality puts mine to shame too.

Where was the cracking, on the hood and around the fuel filler area?

Oh, and what, no engine compartment pics? Doing *that* part of these cars is, uhm, "fun" ;) :grinno:

The cracking was on the entire hood, and both rear quarter panels.

The owner just wanted the exterior done, no engine bay detailing. I did look under the hood, but it wasn't as spectacular as I thought. I had a picture in my mind of a Viper V10 engine.

They didn't start dressing up engines/compartments on emissions controlled engines till a bit later, really. I think GM was the first to make an effort to clean up the wiring/hoses and put some covers on things in the mid-80's, the first one I recall was the 3.0 MFI Buick engine, followed by the 3.8 SFI. IMO, a lot of the Jap engines still look all messy under the hood, with gee-gaws and wires/hoses/exposed stuff willy nilly all over.

I think it was the kind of thing where there was a lot of cool engine tech in the 60's and the engineers wanted to show it off by dressing it up, but by the 70's and 80's with the emissions strangled engines, there was just no excitement in there, and nobody (including the engineers/designers) cared. When FI/computerization allowed them to bring back some performance, the car guys were once more proud of what they were putting under the hood, and wanted it to look nice. I think it's a cultural thing that many Japanese mfrs don't feel that under the hood is an area worthy of a lot of packaging thought and details; it's a functional area and the form follows function there.

That's my take on, I may be way off, and sorry to thread-jack.

They made the XJC - 2 door pillarless coupe and sooooo seventies - very nice indeed. I know they came with the 6 cylinder engines but not sure whether the V12 was ever fitted, remembering of course that V12 E Type was in build at the same time in fixed head and roadster format.

I know Broadspeed made a wide arched saloon car racing XJC as one of my clients has one - awesome car.

As for the detail on this XJ-S :brit wonderful work sir!
