Using vinyl protectants universally, including on paint

I had an old weathered truck box I wanted to shine. Wet Paint wouldn't make it shine: http://www.wetpaintglaze.com/index.html . Turtle Wax Color Back polish wouldn't make it shine. I knew from experience that Turtle Wax Formula 2001 Super Protectant would, so I used it. I know you can also use it as an engine cleaner: http://dsmlife.com/forums/printthread.php?threadid=4616&perpage=45 . And I know 303 is recommended for shining paint: http://www.303products.com/tech/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=281 and
http://www.303products.com/tech/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=360 .
Eureka Fluid Film is also a many-splendored thing: http://www.eurekafluidfilm.com/applications/automotive.html .
But these products are a little expensive. Has anyone used Armor All, wheel or tire cleaner, etc., on paint successfuly and economically?

I don't really have a comment about putting vinyl protectants on paint (not a good idea IMHO and that's all I'll say), but I want to make a comment. Formula 2001 or any other vinyl dressing will not clean your engine. I read that link you posted and basically all they did was cover up the dirt with dressing. It may look better short term, but I'm sure it didn't last.

pledge wood polish will shine the paint too. windex will clean off dust. point is that the results are temporary and rarely good for the paint

only a fool would use armor-all all over their paint ;) this is a detailing site for people who try to do "Detailing" the right way

try this stuff it will make anything shine ... i use it on my vega and people ask me all the time what am i using .. glad i could help you out bro .. these people on this site think they know everything about detailing but i think you are on the right track .. also a little deisel on the engine looks great i learned that one from my grandpa..

Well I cant speak for the other products but the NU FINISH stuff bigron is talking about is available in every auto parts store in AZ and it works pretty well, not the best shine but it does seem to last a wile (they claim 6 months 52 washes or something). Anyways armor all on paint.....can we say dust magnet....but what do i know......i will never try it on my truck

While I agree that using a vinyl protectant on paint is ridiculous one very respected manufacturer of vinyl protectant recommends doing just that. 303 recommends applying Aerospace protectant to your paint instead of waxing. Check out there web site they have a big write up about it. I'm not kidding.

Years back car dealerships and show car guys would use pledge to shine there cars to make them real shinny...this was only for show...you couldn't touch them but they shinned really good...

For using WD40, it's fine in my book IN THE ENGINE. Except WD30 attracts alot of dirt. The links you have are so browse and alot of them are to random commercial products. Vinyl? I didn't think 303 was a vinyl protect, more of an All purpose protectant.

I've never used it, but have read 303 doesn't even last on the tires through a wash...the durability must be super on the paint. lol

303 is for Vinyl, plastic, rubber, and leather. Most vinyl protectants can be used on more than just vinyl.

in the time you have wasted on this thread and all the links. you could have waxed your car with car wax so why dont you go wax your car and post some pics like everyone else here..
