And some nasty nasty swirls to get rid of... I got my stuff from CMA and had at it

I'm not done yet at all... i've only done one wheel well, i still have all the interior to do, and the windows and trim.... (i also think i'll order some zaino and try that...) This right here is just cleaned... SMRd and BF polished... with one coat of wax to hold it till my Z arives. Here is a link to all the pics (and some nice contrast before after ones)

wow looks great man. I think the BF looks better than zaino. Why the switch?

Wow! Great work! I have one question though. You said you used the BF polish and the one coat of wax. Did you not use the BF Paint Protection too, or were you referring to that when you said "wax"? Man, you guys are really making me want to try Blackfire.

peace

Durability.

In my experiences (test panel and garage queen Mercedes), BF simply didn't hold up as long as Zaino or Klasse. In fact, it didn't even last as long as a few "normal" waxes.

Looks great, yes. Didn't last for me... :(

PS: Lookin' good, Dr!

I just used the BF polish and some Souveren... i tried the BF paint protector thing before... but it was marring really bad for me for some reason (i think it was me trying to QD) so I striped it off and put the souveren on just to hold it untill my zaino arrives. As i understand it with the zaino if it starts marring the finish like that i can just apply more z5 over it and fix it... rather than having to get rid of it all and start over.

Completely agree. That said, it seems to hold up very well on one of my car at coat#10. It's been two weeks since I last put a coat on and still looks pretty darn shinny.

I also put on 3 coats on my brother's car about 6 weeks ago, and I gave the car its FIRST wash 2 weeks ago and it looks alright. The vertical panels still shine very well but I see swirls reappearing on the hood. Gonna put more coats on and see.

Yes I agree BF looks great but to my taste I don't think it looks better than Zaino.

Using Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant To Restore a Deep Natural Shine to faded plastic.

We have all seen it and sadly some of us know somebody who is affected by it. Perhaps you suffer from it as well... We are talking about faded trim on our favorite vehicle. Plastic cladding and rubber trim is brutilized by the sun's rays.

Meguiar's Ultimate Protectant is a polymer based dressing that will help restore a dark natural shine to faded trim as well as help prevent new trim from fading. This is not a dye, so reapplication will be necessary to keep the surfaces looking there best after the initial treatment.

Clean the part thoroughly.

This the first and in many ways the most important step. On our test subject, a 2006 Pontiac GTO, I simply used an old tooth brush in conjunction with car wash to remvoe any loose soiling. If you have wax residue or heavy build up consider using a quality all-purpose cleaner, such as Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner, while washing the vehicle. Rinse thoroughly and dry carefully.

The window trim on this Pontiac GTO has faded, which makes the entire car look aged, despite the still brilliant paint. This picture is after washing the piece thoroughly.

Here I applied to a strip of tape to the lower windshield trim to show the results that where possible.

Start by applying a small amount of Ultimate Protectant to the trim using a cotton towel, foam applicator, or microfiber cloth. Meguiar's recommends a small amount of product, about a pea sized drop, for an averaged piece of trim. If your trim is badly faded/oxidized you will find that it will 'absorb' the product, which requires more. I applied a quarter sized drop to half of the trim and found it was best to leave it on a little thick. The dried trim seemed to absorb a majority of it, so I reapplied a second, thick coat on top and allowed it to dwell.

While the second coat dwelled, I used a q-tip to applied Ultimate Protectant to the detail work in the trim.

Buff off any excess product and streaks with a terry cloth or microfiber. If you notice any areas that still seem dull, reapply Ultimate Protectant.

The dramatic difference.

Todd,

Thanks for the post, I have been looking at trim products and that looks interesting. I've been using Black Again, not the can, the bottle ya'll use to sell and it looks great, then after a couple rains, it streaks and blotches and runs - like my ex wife after too much liquor.

How has Megs held up down there in sunny/monsoon Flor a duh?

I use this stuff all the time on trim. Lasts quite awhile (2-3 months on my DD pickup),depends on rain, how much you wash, etc. I really like it, I just recently used it on a Volvo XC70 (tons of exterior plastic) and it really brought back the trim color from faded gray to a nice black.

Ive used this product a few times now. The best thing about it is it smells like the beach to me:)

On my own trim it did not run or get get drippy or blotchy from the rain .(That would be a deal breaker for me as Ive had a couple other products do that .)

What I dont like about it is having to apply it twice . It can look great when you apply it and then 15 minutes later you mayneed another coat .

It works best on newer vehicles where the trim isnt already faded or dried out.

Second that beach thing, it could be coconut oil, pina colada and Rachel Hunter in a bikini or it could be sea weed, 3 day old dead fish and Nasty Nancy from the Biker Bar.

Excellent writeup and pictures Todd  I like this product.

Anyone compare this to Ultima Trim & Tire Guard (UTTG)?

I have compared the two and its durability is not on par with UTTG. However as far as durability goes it beats everything else I've tried other than UTTG and C4.
Like DC said it doesn't get blotchy or water runs or anything. It looks good for about a month from what I've seen. As far as restoring severly faded trim I would say it darkens it better than UTTG until a few weeks or a month later when it fades below the level of UTTG.

Edit: Oops I almost forgot DG 531 - it has better durability than UP ime... but if you use it on trim you will get more dirt attraction than you will with the first 3 products mentioned.
