Using blackfire, but rain is still leaving spots!

Ok, I can deal with spots after rain, my car stays sealed... or so I thought. I added a third layer of blackfire tonight... and what do you know? Water spots all over the hood. No big deal... the PC and the blackfire will take care of it right? WRONG!



There's no cleaners in the blackfire which I didn't realize. Now that I do... why is this sealant that is layered getting water spots? At least with the finishkare the water spots stayed on top of the finish. The sides of the car look great, but i'm so pissed at all of this work i've done and this stuff just lets water stains right through.



I'm going to strip the whole hood AGAIN and see if my 915 is more resistant to this. Anyone know?
 
I find some "beauty sealants" like BF and UPP provided quite sub-par protection against certain things...maybe that's just what you're experiencing. It's enough to make me reconsider the UPP I've been using on the S8.



The 915 oughta be better. I've never used that one, only 845 and 476S, but those always cleaned up OK in this regard. But our experiences vary *SO* much with LSPs that I hesitate to even suggest what might happen ;)
 
Just got caught in rain all day yesterday with the Accord that has Fuzion; never had any rain residue yet and the rain can amplify something fierce this time of year here!
 
I've never seen water spots that would wash off from rain on any of my cars regardless of wax/sealant used. Are you sure it was rain and not hard water? Or maybe even acid rain? where do you live?
 
Could seriously be acid rain :eek: or hard water. I use alternate driving routes sometimes just to avoid town/county sprinklers because the reclaimed water here is so bad it can etch the paint even if I were LSPed with a diamond coating and pretty much, if enough gets on it, only machine polishing can remove it.
 
I had washed the car the other night and then applied another coat of the BF... however I had forgotten to add that that night I had polished the hood and applied a first coat onto the hood. The rest of the car now had 3 layers. The water spots however we not on the sides of the car, but I still had a little bit of FK1000 on there... perhaps the BF had not quite cured... honestly I don't even like the look of it when I first wipe it off, it looks cloudy, but once it cures it looks really awesome... much better on white than I thought it would.



I guess I may have to strip the hood... AGAIN. Could I maybe use Klasse AIO to get the water spots off and then try to coat it a few times with the 915?

That's the thing man... for being a beauty sealant such as it is, water does just slide right off or bead right up, depending of course where on the car it is.

Yeah, certainly worth trying and out of all the cleaning LSPs, that's probably the one that's gonna remove the spots if they don't need polishing.



Hmmm...I was considering BF as my next LSP, probably for this fall, but now I'm going to stay on the fence a bit and do more research and see if maybe it does need curing precautions before exposing it to less than clear weather.
 
It doesn't matter what protectant I use, my black beauty spots after rainstorms if I don't wash the car soon after. I think it's more a function of geography and environmental pollution than anything else.



I have found that I need to use an AIO or cleaner wax on a regular basis to remove the spotting. When possible I like to remove the spots before applying my protectant of choice (which at the moment is Victoria Concours Red).

Do you use the AIO as a protectant also? I ask because i've had a black car and it seems like using an AIO with a PC maybe once each month or 2 might keep the paint in better shape. Black is a gorgeous color, but man it's hard to keep up with.
 
I used KAIO tonight... I looked at the hood and it left these strange swirl marks which I think was actually leftover blackfire that was partially cut through with the cleaner but not all the way. I think it's actually pretty tough stuff and I messed up by not letting it cure before it was rained on.



Either way, I used some Menzerna Intensive polish with an orange pad. The paint looked nice and reflective, so I went ahead and put a coat of 915 on it.



A NOTE ON 915. I really do love how smooth it goes on and actually how it comes off. Key time here is 8 minutes!!! I put it on and left it for just a few and it just smears. As long as the air is pretty dry 8 minutes is the way to go... it comes off easy and smooth and leaves and nice glass finish. I'm happy with the results. I have the car in the garage for the night so no rain will get to it tonight (if it does happen to rain).



Anyone know how long before I can layer it? I'm going to wait 24 hours just in case I think.

By the way man... though the Finish Kare (FK1000p) didn't last a super long for me (I wash my car to much lol) Rain DID NOT penetrate the sealant. It might be worth a try for you. I went with 2-3 coats. It leaves a white residue on the paint, but it does wash off and we have SUPER hard town water here.
