So, just to be clear, we are talking about 2 diffeerent things:
1) using a leaf blower or other "high volume" device to blow dry the entire car
and
2) using a shop vac/ metro vac or "high velocity" device to blow water out of cracks, crevices, door handles etc...
and of course there are people who are combining the 2...
I use the tiny craftsman 2 gal shop vac for my car, in both vac and blower modes. I bought a separate hose and crevice tool that I keep clean and use only for blowing. It works great.
As far as the air quality, the air used for blowing is the same as the air that comes out of the vac when it's sucking - I never see dust or grains of sand blowing out the back of the thing! As long as you empty it first (duh) and keep the filter fairly clean there shoudl be no problem.
And dont forget - you are hitting your car with dusty air at 70 mph when you are driving it!
