I pledge allegiance

To the Flag

Of the United States of America

And to the Republic

For which it stands

One nation

Under God

Indivisible

For liberty

And justice

For ALL!



It's been over 20 years since I last recited those lines. Every morning before starting classes for the day everyone stood up from their desks and faced the Flag, placed their hands over their hearts and recited the Pledge of Allegiance. Not one kid or teacher had a problem with this. Today they're not allowed to recite the pledge......thank you ACLU!

Wonder how much the "under God" bit contributes to people having issues with the Pledge :think: That *is* the issue, right? Too bad that a religious reference has killed off a fine patriotic tradition.



I for one absolutely *CANNOT* say that "nobody had a problem" with that, and I was in school back "in the good old days when everybody..[etc. etc.]...". It was just that back then people who didn't subscribe to the mainstream beliefs knew they had to keep their mouths shut about it and their heads down.



But that's a topic for another time, and for me, probably not a topic to discuss on an internet detailing forum.
 
I always had a great deal of respect for all the military and indeed civilians who stood with their hand on their heart and recited the pledge. I did the same every morning on base, but often found myself thinking ‘what would I do if things came down to England and the US’



I don’t want to get into the reasons this is no longer considered PC either
 
when i was in school no one really had a problem saying it. i think people just didnt want to say it because they were told to say it. like the "do what your told not to do" kind of idea
 
As an atheist, if I'm ever in a situation where people are saying it I still stand and put my hand over my heart and recite everything and just be silent for the "under god" part. It doesn't offend me that its being done. I kneel my head when people pray too, just out of respect for them and their beliefs.



Tolerance goes both ways. Things would be much better if people understood that.
