Um, something sounds fishy here...
Sounds like somebody made a purchase online, figured that he couldn't afford it, and then decided to call the cops claiming that somebody is trying to impersonate him and purchased something under his name... yeah we hear this all the time on the news.
Frankly, I've been lurking on many detailing forums for many years. I have never heard of the person "Tim Lingor" or 2hotford in my life. Why would anybody want to impersonate this person? Because he is popular? I don't see people impersonating Paul Dalton, Kevin Brown, Todd, and others. Why would this "impostor" choose to "impersonate"
Tim Lingor?
We are told by the OP that somebody is impersonating him on the internet and that the impostor is posting on various forums under the OP's aliases. But what exactly did this impostor post that raises any concerns? Can we have a LINK as to where this "impostor" has posted? Is the "impostor" trying advertise his service under the OP's prestige? If this impersonator does
truly exist, then he is probably Tim Lingor's disgruntled customer, a coworker whom the OP doesn't get along with, or perhaps a pissed-off brother in law. Or maybe it is a friend of the OP who is trying to play a joke on him, I don't know. I just cannot think of any other reason why anybody would try to impersonate the OP.
Finally, does the mounted police really have anything better to do than to handle internet drama? I honestly think that if this "impostor" exists, he would not use his own computer to pull this prank. He probably used a local computer to commit such prank, and in which case an IP address would only lead to a complete dead end. Besides, I highly doubt that the mounted police would even bother obtaining the required warrants to gain access to various IP information just because somebody cries foul about someone else posting on the internet under his own name. Another concern would be jurisdiction. What if this impostor exists in another country? There's really nothing the mounted police could do if that's the case.
Honestly, it is laughable that people put the effort to censor their license plate identifications, but at the same time use their real names and post face-shots of themselves on the internet. Very clever.
I have nothing against the OP, but this story (or lack thereof) just doesn't make sense.
