UPP on top of SG?

Hello all,

Newbie "Weekend Warrior" here. This may be an odd question, but I was wondering if it would be possible (or worth it!) to top SGx2 with a coat or two of UPP?

After reading all of the wonderful reviews of UPP and how it adds quite a good wet/slick look, I finally got some but have yet to try it. I was curious if I would need to go back through the AIO routine to take off the SG or if I could just top it with the UPP. I have searched, but could not find any definitive answer. Soooo, I thought I'd ask the PRO's... HELP?!?!?

Keep in mind that this is for a Blazing Yellow (bright!!) truck. (Can't find much on yellow vehicles, either!) So, the results of doing this may not even be noticeable.

Thanks in advance. This is really one AWESOME forum with great people!!

Not having used SG, I don't personally know, but I am sure I have read where several people have done what you are considering.

As far as yellow vehicles are concerned, check for Don's yellow Cavalier. It will knock your eyes out. :)

Great to hear! I was hoping so. Thanks, Charles. I will check out Don's yellow cavalier now. I must say that my yellow truck does have a "sparkle" to it....and I LOVE it!

For some reason I don't find any pictures of Don's Cavalier. I was sure there were some on the site at one time.
Don, where'd they go? Or am I hallucinating? Maybe you had a link to them.

No specific experience with this combo.

UPP is a polymer & SG is acrylic, don't know if there would be a bonding issue or anything detremental to the durability expectancy of UPP.

Someone did a test of FMJ (polymer) over AIO (acrylic) at another detailing board & they reported very unsatisfactory durability from FMJ while others that have used FMJ over other polymer products suggest that durability is excellent.

Can only suggest you try this combo on a panel & report your findings.

Ok, thanks, NYV6Coupe. This is what I was wondering; polymer, acrylic, etc. I guess that I will give it a shot and see what happens. This entire week is supposed to rain, so it seems that this will be a "next weekend thing".. Thanks again for the info!

UPP over SG is a a wonderful idea that works. I used it for about a year on my red Lightning. You can intermix layers of UPP, SG and SONUS Acrylic Spritz at will, with no ill effects. The shine of SG and the slickness of UPP is unbeatable. If you want the look of "the paint fill drip off the vehicle", top your UPP/SG layers with Pinnacle Souveran. At that point, however all layersing of the 3 products listed above will end as none will adhere to wax. Of course you could resort to AIO to strip everything off and start all over again :bigups

I have also used UPP on top of SG. It works great on red (only colour I tried it on) and looks deep and wet. However, unless Gonzo, I have not tried SG on top of UPP though.

Good to hear that this combo will not only work but it also looks great.

I'm not a chemist so I have no idea if polymers will bond to acrylics & vice versa and at the same time retain durability & appearance.

My previous post mentioned the seeming lack of durability of FMJ over AIO & there was mention of possible bonding issues between dissimilar synthetic sealants so I passed that along.

Ignore my previous comments.

I need to give that combo a try. I'm running out of cars to take care of/experiment on!

Gonzo...nice contribution on your first day. :)

No need to ignore, NYV6Coupe, that was a good point and I appreciate it.

Thank you all. Can I say it again, this forum is AWESOME and the people are great!!

Don's Yellow Cavalier

This is almost a thread hijack, but here are some links to pictures of Don's yellow Cavalier. I sent you, (FX4TonkaToy), a PM that you evidently haven't read. I tried to e-mail you, but you aren't allowing members to send you e-mails. I didn't know any other way to get you the information.
