Unusual...Vespa 400

New Normal
I personally have never seen one of these vehicles until it came into the shop of the company that I work for. Apparently the owners wife was complaining about how much fuel that she was using driving around in a large SUV. The owner found this vehicle and dipatched his mechanics to make it work. I watched them paint it and put in a snowmachine engine for power last year.

He made one trip to his house and back and found that it was over heating. He brought it back and had some air scoop put in to help cool the engine. Because most every one at the company knows that I detail on the side the owner asked if I would clean her up a little and pout a sealant on the paint.

Wash with QEW
Zaino Clay and S&W
Zaino ZPC with PC and LC white polishing pad
Z1 by hand with foam applicator
Z5 by hand with foam applicator

Tires and vinyl roof cleaned with QEW and Trim Restore

This vehicle was unusual to say the least. It was also very ...very small.

IT only took 1.5 hours including set up and take down. I was disappointed in the outcome. The paint was terribly ruff. It was painted in the shop during last summers dry season. Clay helped but it was not as smooth as I had hoped for. It was fun to work on something different.

Thats a cool looking car, never seen one of them before. Bet it gets great gas milage. You mentioned that it was still rough, do you know if it was everwetsanded?

True Detailer, I do not know if it was wetsanded at the shop. I can only assume that it was not. It was painted in the very spot that I took the picture. Not a very good enviroment for painting. It was fun to see it change as the days went by.

Quite a change, but that's what I would expect from you.
Personally, I think it was an ugly car when you started, but you definitely made it shiny.
(Still an ugly car:))

The shadow flames are a nice touch, though.

Nice job! It sounds like it needs some wet sanding.

The before/after pictures look pretty drastic in my eyes. The paint looks much better!

Thanks for the comments. It was fun to work on something so different.

Wetsanding is something that I am going to wait on. I have never been known to have a light touch. As the black truck gts older I am sure that there will come a time that I will attempt to do it. But in my mind the phrase, "First do no harm" just keeps entering my brain.

When I lived in Italy those things were all over the place, along with Fiat 500s and other tiny cars. Now put those on the Italian highways, some with mattresses or toilets strapped to the roof, along with Ferraris, stir in no speed limits and you have the solution to Italian overpopulation!

I stepped into a the dealership the other and crossed into the MINI side for a bit to gaze a bit at the beautiful minis on the floor and in the back saw an old Austin Cooper S and fell in love again. Literally, it was only 4 feet tall.I really want an older vehicle like the Austin Cooper.

Then last week I was watching "Fast Inc" and saw them work an old BMW 2002 (I could be wrong on the name) and today I saw that same car on the way to work...

I really really like small vehicles like that.

Cute...What does it want to be when it grows up

Nice job on it though.
I thought a Vespa was one a kind of a scooter/

Looks great!
Did the Z darken the paint that much, or is that mostly due to different angle/lighting? I'm guessing "garage door open" in the first pic, and closed for the second. ;)
