Understanding Menzerna

Well too late now, im gonna try everything out and see what works. I just placed a huge order from AG last night. I got some SIP and 106 to go along with the Flex. I got to wait until tomorow to place my Zaino order though.

Cool another flex user.:woot:

I've had nothing but positive experiences with the Flex and Menzerna polishes, including Power Gloss, IP, and Micro Polish. The Flex seems to work it effectively and efficiently at the same time.

Powergloss - their compound. Dusts alot though but finishes very well.

Thanks.

I would be a little hesitant to use their compound on average swirls. I would hope/think that SIP would be able to remove those even with a PC.

Avarage swirl on what type of car?

It all depends on how hard the paint is.

PG finishes down so well on most paints. You'd be amazed.

The vehicles I have in mind are GM SUV's.

The AG website says that PG has a cut of "5", and a gloss of "1.5". SIP has a cut of "3.5" and gloss of "3", so yes, that is surprising that PG would finish down well.

If I can't remove all the swirls with an Orange pad and SIP, could I move to a Yellow pad with SIP?

Just a little advice - take what AG says with a grain of salt, because there are so many variables in detailing - type of paint, condition of paint and type of pads used. I've never had much luck doing any type of paint correction with a PC, it will clean up oxidation but scratches and swirls need the rotary.

I have eliminated swirls on many vehicles using the PC.

I do agree with you on the variables involved.

The Menzerna chart is only a guide of their own polishes. Even though PG has a cut of 5 of 5, but when compared to others it is a 2 of 5 if you were to compare it to other agressive compounds. PG does have a great cut that a is safer aproach for some users. I am talking about rotary usage too and not even pc usage. For the PC it should give a nice cut and great gloss as well to, but still be on the safe side of things.

Hope this helps.

It also depends on the different paints out there too. I have had PG on a yellow pad at 2000 rpm via rotary and not even budge some swirls that I had seen on some cars.

All paints are not created equal!!!!

The chart that AG is "hosting" is what they get from Menzerna and has *nothing* to do with the other polishes that AG carries. That chart was around long before AG started carrying Menzerna.

Man I thought I knew a thing or two about detailing until I found this site! I realized I know nothing. Im going to try SIP and 106 on my 99 Ford mustang, sorry to butt in on this thread, but Im curious is Ford paint considered soft or hard? Thanks

They were not my own ratings...... They were just a comparison compared to other cuts of polishes. I just stated that it is not a VERY aggressive compound, so people do not get scared.

Menzerna calls it a polish and feels that they should not need anything more agressive. They just require more passes with PG to be on the safe side.

Zaino calls Z2 a polish. See the problem?

:doh But it is actually a sealant.

But in actual reality, an average person that knows nothing calls all of these products waxes Now you see the bigger problem:rofl
