Underage driver wrecked my car! Insurance?

The $500 per month was just a guess by me, I didn't even bother asking the insurance co. My payments were full coverage at $180/ mo. Does anyone have a more realistic guess on what the increase would be?

Yah, I'm back into the legal dating ages now after the wreck!

:D

I'm not too sure that the your insurance will be real high since you were not driving. There was a claim on your policy but you were not the driver. Ask for a quote from some other companies & see what they say. Also you could just get a car that you pay cash for and dont need comp. & collision coverage. Much cheaper...

I would go on some web sites like Geico and get quotes...As was said above you might get lucky due to the fact you were not the driver.

And good call bumping your age limit up

I had to laugh though, I had a buddy years ago that for some unknown reason let a 16 y/o hottie try riding his new CBR600 and she promptyl wadded in over a curb and into a ditch....He lost his *** fixing it

Welcome to Insurance 101

Her parents auto ins wouldn't cover it because since she's underage, she's an unlisted driver on her parents auto policy. Even if she was listed, auto insurance follows the vehicle not the driver - in most states - so your insurance would be primary (pay first).

It sucks - no doubt about it. But in the long run, no one was hurt - that's the main thing.

Good Luck!!

Class Dismissed.

Actually that's not true. I had a similar situation with my son who was unlicensed (and without a learners permit) at the time and was driving a friends car and hit a parked car. It was also on private property, which really is irrelevant. My car insurance covered the damage to the car my son was driving and the owners car insurance covered the damage to the car my son hit. I had a $200.00 deductible on my policy so the two families split it. I also have State Farm Insurance. The owners insurance would have also covered the damage to the vehicle, but they didn't have collision so no coverage. Thankfully my insurance did so it we had very little out of pocket expense. I believe it was a little over $3000.00 damage to the car my son was driving and about the same to the one he hit. Home owners insurance would have nothing to do with a vehicle accident in this case.:)

I have been 110% pleased with State Farm. I recieved my check within 2 days of it being estimated, and the deductible came back within a week of that. And they have made no problem covering medical expenses, and contacting the passenger in my car and getting her set on expenses/lost wages.

And somehow they got the other guy's insurance company to stop calling me, since they were calling on a daily basis wanting me to give them a statement. :)

In your situation that was an agreement between the insurance companies but thats highly unusual, your car insurance paid for an accident caused by someone they have no relationship to and a car they don't insure. Thats very odd.

The only way that would work is if the person who'se car he was driving stated that he did NOT give permission for your son to drive. If he were insured then his insurance would pay. BUT he has no insurance.

Thats very atypical.

Well, I don't think State Farm would pay for something they didn't have to. A good agent can do a lot for an insured. The reason the insurance of the car my son was driving didn't cover it, was because they didn't have colision on their policy. Their policy did cover the damage to the car my son hit though. My son was given permission to drive the car, as that's how he got the keys in the first place. The owner was also very aware that my son didn't have a license or a permit. I was glad it worked out the way it did, but like I said, State Farm wouldn't have covered it if they didn't have to.:)
