hey guys im planning to remove swirl marks on my black lexus car and i dont know which orbiter to buy? Ultimate Detailing Machine or the Porter cable? which one is better? and also can some one please be kind enough to make me a swirl remover package, with all the pads and polishes.

thanks alot :)

I just got a UDM last week, and while I haven't used it on a car yet, I did compare the power it has to my PC. With the same pad mounted on each it was obvious the UDM had a lot more power (or torque) than the PC. At speeds 4 through 6 on the PC I could stop the rotation of the pad with the palm of my hand, but the UDM was almost impossible to stop at speed 4....... I could slow the rotations down but not stop them in my very brief test.

Lack of power has always been my biggest complaint about the PC, but it looks like the UDM has addressed that problem quite well. I'll keep my PC as a back-up and probably just use it with a 3.5" backing plate and 4" pads. If the UDM keeps me from having to use my rotary as often I'll be quite pleased.

I have both and I've mounted a Cyclo carpet brush to my PC and retired it to carpet duty.

The UDM is somewhat smoother, definitely more powerful and leaves a better finish, probably because it breaks down polishes better.

Same for me. I've always had the Griot's Garage unit and I got rid of that and replaced it with the UDM. My PC from 6 years ago has now turned into an aqua brush unit only :)

I've tested it out on a very small spot and I will have to say you will be happy with the UDM. :)

eliot, where did you purchase yours from?
From the (very brief) sale they had at bettercarcare.com. If memory serves me correctly you (or the other Al) posted it in the Good Deals Forum. When I came home that night the thread had already went poof.

I usually wait a day or two and think about a sale before I bite the bullet, especially with something like the UDM that I didn't actually need, but for $120 I decided I'd better jump on it quick.

Or, you could buy a Flex XC 3401 VRG. Check out some of the latest reviews in the Machine Polishing forum. Although, if you're just planning on taking care of your car about 1-2 times per year it may not be worth the extra bill.
