We have an Umbrella Cockatoo that is potty trained. He poops on command. Just bring your car over...

It's Bee poop here in CA that's the problem



I can guarantee the black 911 is spotted by a passing bee or two within 10 mins of polishing!

Very Interesting......I have some bird poop that's been on my car for about a week now. Man am I LAZY!! However, My car was coated with 2x of OS about 3 months ago. I am very tempted to take before and afters. I don't think I have that good of a macro lens though.

Not quite sure how illustrative those pictures are because of the lack of a "macro" paint feature like "orange peel" is devoid from them. I believe these should be evident in order to capture damage like micro-etching. :nixweiss

You can see the metallic flecks in the paint - how much more magnification do you want?

That's what I was thinking, I thought you did a pretty good job getting a lot of detail in those shots.

No quite sure. You are the professional photographer. Probably a more acute angle and lighting might have presented the unevenness in the surface contour?. Metallic flake presentation does not require any magnification to be present in a picture. So flake presents or absence does not fortify the evidence presented.



Personally, I truly doubt that any LSP, including my favorites, will prevent etching over the long haul just from the fact that no LSP is more resistant than the clearcoat on the vehicle. Most clearcoats etch quite easily, depending on the bird's diet, from such assaults and especially so when the offending agent goes though multiple wet(dew) / drying (Sun) cycles.

If anything this demonstrates the resistance of VW paint to such assaults and neglect.:sadwavey:

Magnification:



You should perhaps review the macro shots of the actual poop, and use that as a reference as to the level of magnification provided in the shots.



I that doesn't work, here's the end of a pen-top, shot with the same lens and magnification for reference....

Angle:



I think I outlined in the text that finding the initial defects required looking down the line of the roof panel, and catching the reflection against a darker background.



This was the only angle that showed the issue, and that's the angle the pictures were taken from.



There is no orange peel (factory paint defect) in my VW's roof paintwork to photograph, from any angle - it's simply not present.



LSP



Your choice as to what you use and what you believe about levels of protection or otherwise - I'm not making any claims for any product - just illustrating one test example that was requested by forum members.

I think this is the salient point for all members to remember with this thread, not every LSP will protect against all bird poop, so the key is to keep your LSP as fresh as practicable, be vigilant, and remove any poop as soon and as thoroughly as possible. And don't expect an impossibly thin layer of LSP to protect the metal of your car better than a layer of paint...your paint doesn't wipe off with IPA or paint cleaner, it's a bit more durable than an LSP, if bird crap can etch down to the primer...an LSP isn't going to stop it, get the crap off of there!

Cdodkin, I applaud you (in a way :chuckle: ) for being able to resist the temptation of removing the poo.

Have you washed the car again or noticed any etching in the spot?

I discovered Meguiars Cleaner Wax does a number on the black "stuff" on my old aluminum siding. I broke out the P/c and an old 4 inch pad and went to town. That got some stares...
