Ult Quik Wax vs the Pollen Tree

I washed the car yesterday. By evening I had a fair coat of pollen on the entire car. This morning, my black car had a yellow tinge to it. Now I have Megs QD (the regular stuff), Megs Gold Class QD, and Megs Ult Quik Wax that I could use to remove the pollen.

Since I just washed the car yesterday, I didn`t see my wife "letting" me wash it again today :bonk: (I have too much yard work to do). So one of the sprays was going to have to work. I like the regular QD for claying, but I didn`t feel it had enough lubricity to protect against the pollen being wiped off and I like the Gold Class as a drying agent, but I wanted to put some protection on too (and I didn`t know how much longer she was going to sleep and how much time I had).

So, Ult Quik Wax it was. I misted a light spray over half the roof and gently wiped the QW/pollen mix off the roof. Then I flipped the towel and buffed off the QW residue.

I had good lighting from the sun, even though I was under a tree, and inspected the roof panel for new damage (scratches, swirls, etc). But the finish was unharmed, no new anything, just a slippery, clean surface. Since using the Ult QW on heavy pollen like on the roof didn`t cause any damage, I decided to do the rest of the car. 15-20 minutes later (taking quick breaks for sips of coffee), I was done. The car was gleaming again, with no yellow tinge.

As I sat down to admire my work and finish my cup of coffee, I heard the wife get up .... Dang, I still have the windows to do ....

Pollen is rather abrasive and UQW is not really meant to remove it. Seems like luck was on your side. You may want to consider adopting a waterless wash or rinseless wash into your arsenal. They would be better options.

Agree with Guz. Try a rinse less or waterless wash for a quicky. You can do it about as fast as using a QD with less of a chance of installing new scratches. Pollen is very sharp actually.

Agree also, If I was going to QD it I would hose it off first and use the QD as a drying aid. But once you do all that you might as well do a rinseless.

I know I should have known better, but at the time, my OCD kicked in hard with the pollen literally turning the car yellow. I`ve never tried a Rinseless, but I really should if I`m going to be doing stuff like this.

The cool thing with rinseless is get a bucket with a gamma lid. Then mix a couple of gallons with distilled water, toss in a couple of mfs and you can have it done almost as quickly as a QD with no worries. As long as you only put clean towels in the bucket you dont have to worry about introducing dirt or contaminants. Then just screw the lid shut until next time. Looks fresh washed and as long as you keep folding the towels marring free.
