UDM thoughts from a normal guy....Dissapointed

I demonstrated it at my last clinic. I buffed out a badly oxidized, swirled and scratched 911 in about 90 minutes (while talking) and a student buffed out his swirled TransAm in an hour while the rest of the class watched.

Well get me a plane ticket from MN to CA, you can write it off on your taxes! I would have not problem flying out for a clinic if I had not just gotten married.

I said I'll show it... didn't say I'd build it.

Long term I will put the ability into a new polisher, but not the current platform. The 2,500 to 6,000 RPM range is way too high. Talk about swirls and paint burns!

I will show it after I build 2-3 safe prototypes because I'd like to get feedback on the design. It will require an allen wrench to make the switch. This might be okay for the home user, but might turn off Pros.

You just let me know when there's a working prototype.:)

DB will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he has said he'll travel to any location for a UDM/Ultima clinic given enough committed attendees. I don't recall the number (seems it was around 30?). If you do the legwork in your area to get an audience together, you might get the UDM clinic to fly to you . . .

The final result will be a much better polisher. You will have an opportunity to upgrade.

Yeah, yeah, you just want to come work in my garage so you can enjoy the cool Pacific breeze while polishing away blissfully. :waxing:

Correct. Organize a place and 30 people and I get on the plane with my bag-O-tricks.

I don't have timing on updates just yet. I'm waiting for quotes to come back from tooling and from TUV America. It looks like 90 days to have everything pulled together:

- Longer cord

- New switch slide mechanism and rear housing

- New counterweight system with adjustable balance

The cost of the upgrade kit will be $50. When the UDM Model 1000, Rev 2.0 is released, the list price will increase from the current $149.99 to $199.99.

Will this also include smaller shroud?

Will owners of the Rev 1.0 UDM receive the upgrades free of charge? If so, then when would the $50 charge apply?

Just trying to decide if I should order one now or wait until Rev 2.0 comes out.

Thanks for all of your hard work on this project!

Hahah Tort, I said IF I had not just gotten married. It just amazes me how much that event cost. It was over $25k not counting rings and we did not even do anything amazingly fancy.

Now just because Im a whore, I will post one pic of my beautiful wife!

This is just a pic from a Nikon D50, the pro pics aren't ready yet.

Tomorrow I will test out the UDM again on another car.

And just to be totally fair to DavidB and the UDM team I have been in contact with him about some of the issues I have had with it and I may, may have a defective machine. It happens with every product, once I send it back and they look at it I will post more but until then I do not think that it would be fair to criticize the product more.
