Turtle Wax Ultimate Gloss!!

Well it didn't last on my car - but I just redid my roomate's Ranger with the FMJ kit (I have pics posted somewhere on here) anyhoo

forgot to mention it had been about 2 months since I did anything to it and the water beaded up and sheeted off when I washed it - granted it's the queen of all garage queens (it's 2 year old and has 5000 miles on it !!).

<----- Hmm..... thinking of moving this to Product Discussion. :) Your first post sounds more like a review more than anything else, and people are dicussing this wax... would you like me to move it there or leave it here?

BTW, I also bought this in paste form to try out (but haven't yet). Roughly how long did it last on the TL anyway?

Could this be applied with a Porter Cable ?

There is also a liquid version of this product that works really well with a PC. It wipes off very easy and it doesn't leave a bunch of powder behind. It does leave a very high gloss as advertised. Turtle Wax, who'd of thunk it? :bigups

Color me skeptical-my results match Steve's at Roadfly where he tested several recent waxes.

Interesting that the Turtle Ultra had the highest initial rating of all the products tested! In addition to that it received a 10 for application and removal.

I have no idea about the products longevity at this point and to be honest I don't really care because I wax so often and this wax is so simple to apply it lends itself to frequent application. What I'm noticing is how easy it is to remove, that it doesn't leave marks on black plastic/rubber, the slick surface it leaves and what a great shine and gloss it delivers.

When I want longevity I fall back on Klasse AIO applied with a PC and followed by a layer or two of SG. Even then the Turtle Ultra is a nice topper.

Now I'm not touting this product as a miracle or anything like that, but I am pleasantly surprised at its performance especially considering its reasonable price. I bought the liquid version for $7.22 at Wal*Mart.

Yeah, but it faded out in 2 weeks...

It seems to be a good product, similar in looks to Nano and Nxt. You would have to try each one to find out which one workes better. and last longer. I do know one thing there Ultra spray detailer is super.

Try one of the following to remedy that:

  • Layer two to three coats
  • Use as a Klasse topper
  • Wax every other week (I'd have to restrain myself to wait that long)

I just used that for the first time yesterday. I like it a lot too.

Longevity is, and should be a criteria, when testing waxes, however it's not always a high priority factor for many folks particularly when the product is easy to apply & remove and it looks fantastic.

Some people here mentioned using TurtleWax Ultra Gloss as topper.

As I understand, a topper should be pure wax, not cleaner wax. However, I feel the Ultra Gloss has some cleaning ability. Acutally, TurtleWax replied that Ultra Gloss has more cleaning ability than Super Hard Shell which has "cleans and shines" on the label.

Being a cleaner wax and giving bettter result by multiple application seem to contradict each other, but that is TW Ultra Gloss' claim.

TW's FAQ that was written before they introduced Ultra Gloss:

"Most waxes and polishes contain some mild cleaning agents (safe for clear coat finishes) which remove old wax, minor scratches and everyday oxidation. All polish and wax products clean, shine and protect, unless otherwise stated on the label. "

"

Q: How many coats of wax/polish should I apply ... will additional coats provide better protection?

A: Applying additional coats of wax at one time is not necessary, however, a second coat may assure protection in the areas you may have missed. The small amount of protection provide, with each application, is not as effective as applying a coat of wax 3-4 times a year. Remember, today's harsh environmental factors require more frequent waxing, especially if your vehicle is highly exposed to these conditions.

I use it as the main wax in my car, and I can get easily 2 months using the liquid version (I never go that long, but in other car that I tried it it was doing well after 2 months. Also, wheather here is mild, so it may affect durability)

First application, use a pre-wax cleaner to perp surface. Polish should work the same. NO DAWN!!

Spread it all over the car. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Remove. Apply a second coat a week after, also letting it sit for 10-15 minutes. This should last at least a month.

For the next month, apply the regular coat to all the car, let it sit for the 10 minutes. Remove. Ideally, the car should be kept covered and not driven. Let it cure for 24 hours, then apply the second coat. Same procedure, cover all the car, let it sit, remove. Voila! Shiny car :)

Let me get a picture of my baby with the turtle ultra
