Turtle Wax TIRE WAX??? Any Comments?

I agree with most everyone's review of the product. I think it does a fine job, it doesn't sling, and it hasn't browned my tires. A few caveats though.

1. Make sure tires are really clean before application.

2. Make sure tires are dry before application. I think that the blotchy results some have had were due to damp tires.

3. Two coats work best for me. Apply one coat on all tires and then apply the second coat.

4. I have also applied it on the plastic around my windshield wipers. It's okay, but don't get it close to the wiper blades or it will streak your glass.

I have also used the TW 2001 protectant with Trilocone or whatever it is. I too had the little white balls on my dash and door panels. I thought it was towling or something too. That stuff is horrible.

Is this silicone oil you are referring to? Has anyone used this for a good amount of time and then stopped using it for at least a couple of weeks? If so, did it brown? Same questions with tire WAX. The only way you notice the browning from damaging silicones is when the silicones aren't covering it up.

Puter,

I've used the trilicone tire gel once a couple months ago and I haven't been using any tire dressings at all since. I got a <em class='bbc'>little[/i] browning on the outer edges of my tires. But it wasn't nearly as bad as I would expect if I were using something like Black Magic's waterless formulas. Furthermore, it washed off pretty easily using a wash mitt and car soap. But then again, the tire gel was only applied once to my tires.

Intermezzo,

Thanks for the info! How did you like the stuff? I need something glossier than 303 type stuff but want it to be pretty safe and not turn my tires completely brown. Needless to say I am watching arcticwhite's other thread rather closely:)

I have been using TW tire gel for some time too. Check out the pic I posted of it in the other thread about selecting tire dressings......

Anyhow, it does not brown the tires. That's what I like about it. After a wash I apply it and the tires have a nice sheen to them. If I drive in the rain the sheen goes down but the tires stay black....kind of like the 303 or Z-16 look. Try it you will like it!

For me, silicone is just too dangerous to use on my car (other than carnauba waxes, of course, which is unavoidable). I use silicone free dressings for everything including my wheel wells. Turtle Wax Tire Wax is good for a low sheen, and for those who want the shiny, glossy tires, I use a couple coats of Meguiar's Endurance High Gloss (which I have seen NO browning from).

Silicone...:scared It's scary! But that's just me! I just don't want to risk browning or corroding.

Don't the tire manufacturers specifically say not to use dressings with silicone?? I know I've read that on this board before, and it seems like I heard that at a tire store.

TW tire gel contains silicone polymers not silicone oil like found in armor all, etc. Also, using you should be much more cautious using those oils on your car's paint than using them on rubber trim. Browning can be fixed.....a fisheyed paint job can too with enough money.....

Oh, ok, thanks for clearing that up about the silicone polymers. I'm still not going to go rushing out and buying the stuff because I am happy with my silicone-free diet that gives great results.

As for the silicones on the paint, isn't that completely unavoidable in carnauba waxes? Even $70 Souveran has silicones, as does that $1200 Zymol Estate stuff.
