Turtle wax compound in a can

I've heard people tell horror stories of the compound in a can. I see them on the shelves all the time at Wal-mart, canadian tire, etc.... and am curious, is it really as good as people talk about? I'm almost curious enough to buy a tin and see if it is that bad. :LOLOL

These were the mainstays back in the day. To their credit TW has reformulated the rubbing/polishing compounds (in the tubes) that are much more user friendly. The compound in the can is best described as "rocks in a box". It will remove dead paint, oxidations, micromarring, etc but will leave lots of dust and will need several refining steps to make the paint LSP ready. There are far easier products to use now, that the TW compound(can) should only be used for severe basket cases.

The red can stuff is like beach sand mixed with car wax. Way back, I used it on spots, like paint transfers from when my sister rubbed her Audi along two yellow parking lot dividers (tried to fit the car between two, but managed to hit both). It's more or less made for the type of people who get themselves into situations like the one I just described.

That stuff brings me back to the late 1960s. Compound has come along way since. Looks like you have mastered black...why use anything other than what your using?
