ts|s...short for "third shift studios." The brain child of mine from years ago when I would stay up late at night doing freelance web/graphic design after coming home from the traditional 9-5. Months back, Autopian member rdorman, Rick, contacted me and mentioned he would be in the Cincinnati area on April 24 and would like to have his 2000 BMW 740i given a complete stage 3 overhaul. "Of course I said...when is most convenient for you?" "at night, i need the car through the day." :cooleek: So we set the date, April 24th, in the parking garage of the UC Marriott @ 8PM.

Rick's BMW is a 2000 with 119k on it. He enjoys maintaining his car but just wanted to treat it to a professional spa package. After handshakes and small talk about the latest Autopian threads, I set off to work. Rick was adament about having the full thing documented, "I GOTTA HAVE THE 50/50 SHOT!" Well buddy, without further adue, I present to you 12 hours of midnight-detailing madness!

Rick's leather was very cracked and dry, it's difficult to tell but there are so many cracks on the clean side it looks like embedded dirt.

If you're not doing it like this, you are wasting your time!

That's definitely my favorite 7 series body style!! Great Job Jaison!! Gotta love those 3rd shift details...the sun shots are awesome.

Jaison worked long and hard on my car and it really shows. Thanks, it was a pleasure!

On the color, Imola was not offerred in 2000 on the 7 so the car had to be ordered special which is why you don't see many of them.

what all did you use ?

Did you finish on time?

how much time did you actually spend polishing, and how many passes?

i'm curious

great job!

hey what kind of carpet auto brush is that? what the nae of it and how much is it?

The carpet brush is from Chemical Guys, it's a 6" disc with hard bristles. It will shed after the first use, but has not shed since. It's a HUGE help on floor mats and SUV hatch areas.

I remember at one point I looked at my phone and said "I wonder when his check out is....?" But the LSP was put on around 8:00 am.

Polishing time took roughly 3 hours, it was 4am when I stared. The car has SOOO much trim on it, and I always tape all that up, so compound doesnt mark up the black. That was time consuming but well worth it. I polished the hood and front fenders with M105 and a Cyan Hydrotech pad, then did a 2nd step with a Tangerine and M205. The rest of the car was 1-stepped with M105 and Cyan pad. It's a remarkable combination. I was so impressed with how much the paint glossed up using just a single step. After 1 final wash to remove any tape residue and compound from the nooks/crannies, I applied a coat of Adam's Machine wax. I chose that b/c this is his daily driver and I wanted something that would endure the elements. Considering his drive home was dry all but 4 miles from his house when it down poured, it was a great choice.

Car looks phenomenal!! I'm from Louisville, KY so I'm not too far away from you!

Been there a few times! I did some design work for a band called 7 Day Sun from there. The band's Singer's dad owns a strip joint called Trixie's which I also did some design work for-from what I understand, they are a pretty well known club.

Wow, pretty awesome results for only using 105 on almost all areas. Do you always do this? It seems like it would make a great option if the owner ever wanted to come back in the future and then all you'd have to do it a one step of 205. What machine did you use?

I used a Flex D/A. I've never used a rotary.

honestly, the Hydrotech pads made a HUGE difference. I chose them b/c they specifically say in their text they were made for water-based compounds like M105/205. I did 4 sweeps in each 2x2 pass. In 1 sweep, The pad evenly distributed the compound, on the return sweep, it allready broke it down. I followed with 2 more sweeps and that section would glow with very little residue left over.
