OK, I found a small dent, a fisheye and a small scrath on my new 2004 Molten red Dakota (truck is one week old and has 275 miles)...I found these problems the second day I had it and it took time to get it in.

Quesiton is this: dealer cannot remve smalldent via PDR and has to paint...they ASSURE me that the paint will match perfectly but I am more than a little concerned.

Service dept at this dealer is good and they have ben usign the same body shop for 6 years w/o problem

Quesiton is this: should call dealer, throw a fit a demand a new truck without damage or trust them and see how it comes out first?

Thanks

They are full of sh*t if they tell you that. Depends how long you've had the truck, but if its been a few days, there's probably no way they'll give you a new truck.

That'smore or less what I was thinking....if it was a lighter color I would be less worried but....

I just called the dealer and spoke to the CSI person and explained the whole thing to her....she is meetign with the GM to discuss options and said if it has not been titled yet then they might be able to swap me out, otherwise i am nto picking it up till it is perfect

BTW, where in Framingham are you, i grew up in natick?

well, i feel a little better now...dealer is sending truck to an outside shop that has a good reputation and does good work and I have made it crystal clear to them that if there is not a 100% match then I will nto be taking the truck off the lot and Crysler will be gettign invloved

I'm every bit as fussy as you are and have been through this numerous times.

Number 1: There is no way in h--- that the dealer or Chrysler will take the truck back for the small (to them) flaws that you describe.

Number 2: Work positively with the body shop that is doing the repair. Make sure the repair is 100% right before you leave the shop. Make sure there is no overspray on the truck. My last two trips to the body shop have resulted in excessive overspray on other parts of my truck that were not being repaired.

Number 3: Maintain a positive but assertive relationship with the dealer. It will pay off in the long run.

I have never had a "perfect" new vehicle. Not even my Toyota's. There always seem to be minor flaws if you look hard enough. And I do. :D

If the dent can be taken out with PDR and the fisheye and scratch are small and in an area that is not readily visible you might just want to leave it alone. I have numerous minor imperfections in the paint of my black Hemi. No else notices them but me and now that I've had the truck for over a year and have some other minor flaws that come from driving, I notice them less. My Hemi is black and the paint is fairly easy to match. If your molten red Dakota is metallic, it might be difficult to match. The shop will fix the bad area and repaint it with base coat and then clearcoat the whole panel. I got into real mess with that on my Hemi -- three trips to the body shop.

Enjoy the heck out of your new truck and just accept the fact that it will never be perfect. I know that that is hard to do for an Autopian. :xyxthumbs

Thanks Tom, I did soem homework and the shop they are sending it to is very good and they are aware I am an "autopian" and seem to appreocte it.

Good news is that the CSI lady at the dealer is very cool and I told her I was sorry if I was btring an *** but and thats as far as it got and when she said, no we understand completely...She also said that she went in a pulled my title and reg work beofre it gets filed and said a slong as I am willing to give them a shot then she will be willign to look into swapping me out of it if I am not 100% happy...She knows I had problems from day one with my sales idiot (who i had to wake up this AM because the car he promised I would have as a loner was no where to found when i dropped the truck off and the nicethis is that the service peopkle are cool too, they know it is a sales issue and that the guy I am dealing with is a chimp so it seems to be working out.

We will see what happens on Tuesday when i pick it up....for now I have a wonderful Dodge neon to drive

Sounds fair to me. So what is your Dakota like other than molten red?

When I bought my Hemi, I knew more about the truck than my salesperson. I also managed to have quite a run in with the sales manager about the condition of my truck when it came off the transporter. It was very grubby and looked like a POS. It had to be extensively detailed before delivery. It was OK when it was delivered. It had been held up by Chrysler for two weeks for minor adjustments prior to deivery. It was not a very pleasant experience and I'll be buying from a different dealer next time.

Too bad they didn't loan you a Hemi. :D

it is a 04 SLT extended cab witn the v6 and AT...I do nto paln on toming and if I do I have an 04 Suburban that is my 'work/cleint" car that I can use for that...I just needed wanted a mid size p/u for fun and homwe depot runs.

Funny, I went in loking for a Flame red sport awith v8 and like the look of this better, althouth they did have one vomit green GTX Hemi 1500 in the showroom and I cam very close to driving it...if I dion it would ahve been in my garage now.

I am rweally looking foward to gettign after the paint on this thing with some Klasse/s100 as it has such a deep, ruich shine it will look awesome!

As for the neon.....the motto for the weekend is "I saw this on a cartoon once but I am pretty sure I can pull it off"
