Truck Mounted Water Tanks

I need to get a water tank for my 04 Tacoma so does anyone have one and where did they get it?

Right now I'm looking at a 90 gallon rectangular tank as shown here http://www.watertanks.com/category/224/

I'd like to get something cheaper and something local would be nice as well. I use QEW and S&W but I need a tank as well.

I ordered my tank locally from a farm supply store. It should be in some time this week. It's hard to get them, I called everywhere and no one seems to stock them this time of year. But if your in no immidiate rush I will get you the name of the store I ordered mine from and let you know how it works out with their service. I ordered the 125 gallon tank but cant remember what the price he quoted me was...somewhere around $200 I think.

edit : Final price = $247.80 after tax.

There is a 90 gallon tank for 225 with straps. It is designed for transporting water and is good with UV (not much evaporation). Has the fittings for the pressure washer- they sell larger ones as well.

Remember that one gal. is about 8 lbs. You need to be careful when driving..you will notice the weight when you stop at a light.

If you purchase from tractor supply you probably will get a better price. I think the freight is expensive for water tanks.

Or you can check out www.ronco-plastics.com

When I lived in So. Cal. I purchased a few tanks from them.

There the mfg. of the other tank you were looking at.

I paid around $140.00 for the tank and straps.

first off do u have the 6 cylinder tacoma? remember water is very very heavy so just make sure u can haul it. In my chevy xtreme as a detail truck i used a 35 gallon as was able to wash 2 bigger suvs and it would be just about empty. Im getting a trailer to tow with a 90 gallon on it, water is about 9lbs per gallon jsut keep that in mind. A water tank that size is going to take up alot of room and might not fit between the wheel wells just take ur measurments and make sure ur equipment will fit to. When i looked to buy stuff i wrote down all the measurments and then made sure it would fit. All my stuff generator, carpet machine, tank, pressure washer just fit.

I got a 65 gallon tank from tractor supply and it works well. With QEW we can wash a lot of cars with it. I checked and it said that the tacoma can handle a 210 gallon tank that is designed to fit into the bed of the truck but I don't think I'm going to need or want that much water.

I think you are better off buying a 5x8 Carson trailer that has a wood base in it, that way you can bolt everything down you need and not waste the space in yout pick-up.

I picked up the 125 gallon tank the other night. Final price...$247.80 after tax. very friendly and enjoyable people to do business with. I am mounting the water tank in my 5x8 enclosed trailer. I am also having brakes installed on the trailer this week.(not required...but better safe than sorry (IMHO).

Do you need any special attachments with these water tanks in order to work with a power washer or is there enough pressure at the intake of power washer ?

I'm going to try the "gravity feed" approach. I'm going to place a fitting near the bottom of the tank and see if that works...if not I will be buying a more "industrial" pressure washer. From what a few of the autopians here have told me a good pressure washer combo with a good pump (ie honda engine/cat pump) will pump the water out of the tank on its own. Thats what I will have once I find another $600 to buy one. But for now I will be using a small pressure washer I bought from sears to hold me over as long as it works via. gravity feed I will be set for at least a month or two.

hmm if your talking about the clean and carry from sears, it wont gravity feed cause that is what i have. Most of those small ones arent made to do that, and even if the water comes out it may not be supplying enough and you will burn the pump up. Get a shurflo for 60 dollars and youll be set my best advice, that is what i did.

Thanks Quamen! Sounds like a great idea. I had been looking for some sort of pump...but didn't know where to find one like that...nor did the incredibly smart staff at local hardware stores comprehend what I was talking about.

Thanks again

The washer I use has to have 5 gallons per minute at 20 psi, read your owners manual to see what it needs. I fixed this by putting a pump in line with the tank discharge, and then I ran a braided stainless steel hose to the pressure washer. I have my tank and pump hidden in a metal box I made, all you can see is the braided line coming out and attaching to the pump. I bought my pump at Lowes and I believe I paid about 90 bucks for it. I also remove the hose to the washer, turn on the pump, and use it to fill my wash buckets.
