Trouble getting Z5 of car

You are correct, it does state to use Z1 or ZFX. I missed that and didn't do it. I will give this system another try but now I need more products. It will be difficult for me to use a "pea" sized amount to do a body panel. Is this stuff worth it ??
 
Very well worth it I also reccomend getting some Z8 if you dont have some already. That stuff is awesome will make the paint look dripping wet.

mpmiller37, you are not the first one to struggle with Z. It sort of goes against everything you've done in the past. The Z product line is very good, few will argue (well, we argue about everything here, but we're a picky bunch LOL) that the Z series last a VERY long time. When done properly, your car will look like it has an extra few layers of clear on it. It seals the surface real well, and will seal whatever is under it, so proper prep is critical!



So, to make your Z order worth it, you may want to order the ZFX and another bottle of Z2 and you will be good to go for a long time. I typically mix up about half of one of the little bottles that will come with the ZFX, good for at least two coats and often most of a third. And yes, the first time it is REAL hard not use too much product. A pea size drop is the best reference.
 
Not sure if Zaino will give the look I want. I have a Black car and every little scratch shows. The Z5 didn't seem to "cover up" the imperfections like some other products I have used. So I thought I would polish the car first to try and get rid of scratches. But then can I start using Zaino over the polish (assuming another brand) or do I need to strip everything off the paint. Its kind of a pain ...

The Z series does a very good job of sealing whatever surface you have. My experience is that it is not the best product at hiding imperfections. Surface preparation is critical. If you get the surface the best you can, Z will seal it up.



You may want to watch the click and brag section and watch a few of the pro's and see what products they use particluarly on black. Collectively we are a picky bunch so you will probably try a few products before you "settle" on what works best for you.



The problem is there are several product lines with a loyal following, you need to figure out what works for you. You may want to try to find someone in your area where you can try some products without a major investment.

In my experience with Z2, it does a remarkable job of enhancing good surface prep, but an equally wonderful job of exaggerating surface marring, which is why I stopped using it. No doubt it is an incredibly durable product, but if you have any marring at all Z2 will not only not hide it, but make it that much more noticeable. I also found that Z5 doesn't hide marring that well - actually no products hide marring very well, but some are better than others and it seems to me like the Zaino line is more about making a good surface look great. So if you have some paint problems, you might want to look into other products, maybe ones with some fillers/carnauba. Just imo, of course.
