I see both sides to the story. My understanding is the government contends that the gas tanks could break because they are behind the axle (which is not overly uncommon) and Chrysler is saying that this isn't the case. What are they supposed to do? Recall every vehicle and completely redesign it?

Those vehicles have been on the road since 1994, if there was a high chance of them blowing up in rear end collisions, we would have likely heard about it in the last 20 years...

There was one of these in town where I grew up. He had a "caution flammable" bumper sticker
